2018 Goals: High handicapper to mid-handicap

Hey y'all! 

 

My name is Kevin and I really only started getting serious about golf in the past 12 months or so. 

 

Previously I'd shoot in the high 90s at the beginning of the season, but in 2017 brought my scores closer to the 90 mark. 

 

This winter I found out my driving range has heated bays, so I made a concerted effort to keep swinging the sticks throughout the DC-area winter so I don't regress in the offseason. 

 

This year, my goal is to get into the mid-low 80s by getting off the tee more cleanly (I currently have a horrific slice with the driver) and eliminating three putts from my game. 

 

To do so, I've bought a lesson plan. Buying in bulk and putting the money out there upfront forces me to follow through on the lessons in a consistent manner. Additionally, I have committed to hitting the gym more to better my core stability and increase strength. 

 

What're your goals for the 2018 season? Looking forward to the warm weather around the corner!

Sounds very similar to my situation!

 

Started getting into golf this time last year during my Non-Compete period. Shot consistently in the 100s but am now in the low-mid 90s. 

 

My goals are to break 90 five times this year, play at least 3 times/month, and get my putts down less than 1.5/round.

I will be trying to get my Cap from 8 to 5 this year & lower my putts per round to the high 20's.  This is where I will score.  Making more & more putts for birdie and scrambling for pars

I'm working with James McArdle over at East Potomac. First time I've ever taken lessons and has been incredibly helpful thus far. So far he identified that I was too squat down and bent over, and is working to get me a bit more upright into a better, athletic stance. 

 

East Potomac is by far the most convenient course for where I'm living. 

 

Is there a DMV forum somewhere in MGS?
