Initial thoughts TP5x

I recently cracked open a box of TaylorMade TP5x balls that I got from my daughter for Christmas.

 

While I can't provide any technical/digital specs at this stage, I can give you some feedback from the course.

 

I played Northview Canal Course on the 4th of March. It's a higher end course around here so conditions are typically pretty reasonable compared to other courses this time of the year. Off the fairway was boggy but if you kept it on the short stuff there was some roll available. It was a colder than expected day - probably around 38F and a little bit of wind about.

 

These things FLY! Especially off the tee - Driver and 3 wood. My 3 wood was going deep - 270+ and this is late winter conditions in Vancouver. Couple of drives tipped 300 also. Every time I was on the tee I was giddy with excitement thinking about putting a beat down on that ball! They promoted this ball as adding distance... they may be right!

 

The iron feel is nice and I had confidence when looking to shape a shot or play a controlled shot. One thing i did notice, is i hit into a pretty strong head wind on a par 3 with a 7 iron. I already hit a really high ball but this shot the ball seemed to climb and climb and climb. Almost looked like it climbed 3 times. Came up about 6-7 yards short of the green (pin was front on about 3-4 yards). Now this could be a case of wrong club selection, but it was something that stood out to me. This thing went into orbit! I was a little concerned after that shot that maybe this ball may not suit my ball flight. Didn't have any other issues or concerns after that.

 

Wedges played great. Great feel off the face from any distance and held the green really nice. I spun a gap wedge back about 30 ft on a 125yd par 3. So there's no worries with spin if that is what you're looking for. Chipping and pitching the ball would check up nicely.

 

Putting is solid also. Ball felt smooth and soft off the face. I felt confident standing over it. Didn't sink as many as I would have liked... but that wasn't the ball!

 

 

All round I really like this ball and would recommend for people to give it a go for themselves.

 

In saying this, I am about to give Cut, Snell and Bixtar a go, too. If these balls perform the way people say they do, then it's a pretty simple choice. The price disparity is huge - $20 for Cut etc compared to $60ish for ProV, TP5 etc.

 

Anyways, that's my pretty simple feedback on the TP5x. Looking forward to testing out a few other balls in the coming weeks.

When this ball first come out I played it for 5 rounds.

Like you said off the woods, this thing would fly like an arrow.

My problem was hitting the greens with anything but a wedge, I could not hold the green even coming in high.

Actually just found a TP5x yesterday. Figured if I lost it, it wouldn't matter so I teed it up on a par 4 to try to cut across some water. Had to carry 250ish to clear and get another 25 to be on the green. Best drive I've had in a while, and the ball felt great off the face. I'm going to grab some more and give them a good workout at some point. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks! Now that you mention it, my last round i hit a 52 in from about 100. I took a bit off of it and it came in a little flatter. Damn thing landed about a foot right of the pin and ran out about 10-12 ft. I was pissed lol. But other than that I didnt really have any issues with not holding greens.

Check out Snell golf balls. I just tried the MTB Reds and I really like them. I only played 9 holes today but they fly too. Really solid feel and similar to ProV1x but slightly softer.

I won't say it's the "BEST BALL ON THE MARKET"...

 

But it's the best ball for me. I've been playing it since the PROTO stages and it just works for my game. The only thing I had to get used to was how it would react with shots around the green. Wasn't bad...just had to get used to the feel and how it would react/release. Albeit, the type of grass/greens and conditions played a role in all of this. 

 

Distance, feel, spin, sound...perfect across the board with every club in my bag. 

 

Before I made the #5witch, I was playing the TOUR PREFERRED, ProV1, B330S (2017).

I spent about a month or so last year with both versions. They were both as good as the prov for me and I really like the tp5x off the tee.

Great to hear. I really like the ball. I will keep gaming it until something out performs it for sure.

Lots of good balls out there and this is near the top. I'm probably going to run another test session with both versions. While the price is a bit high I think the tp5 could be a cool weather ball option for me. From what I remember I liked x off the tee and on some iron shots but the non x for my partial shots

The TP5x is the ball I've been gaming for a bit and I really like it. I bomb this ball and find it to be quite responsive. It doesn't seem overly "hard" to me like some others have described it on MGS.

I buy through a connection with a coach... I can't get equipment, just balls. I'm happy, though!!!
