goaliewales14
I wear them for traction and comfort, like most others. I don't believe any shoe will improve your game, but they may help you score better versus wearing a pair of tennis shoes or what have you. I agree with TSauer. I've had multiple different brands from FootJoy to Under Armour to Skechers. Do I think that one brand has improved or hurt my score? Not the brand specifically. For me it's about stability. If I lose traction during my swing, then that can lead to a mis-hit. I also believe that if your feet aren't happy, then that affects your mood on the course. deejaid
Personally, I don't see any golf shoe helping me play better. I'm a walking golfer so for me I'm more concerned with a shoe that is comfortable for walking 18 holes. I got a pair of the new True Links Outsider and they are very comfortable shoes, even off the course. At the same time when it hits triple-digits here in the summer, I wear minimalist sneakers and wear them to the course or range too and see no adverse affect on my golf game. tommc23
Play better yea. I have spikeless ecco I wear when it's nice out and spikes FJ for when its ctappy out. Both are comfortable and both have their place for me. I'm a big boy and I can move so I've slipped on crappy days in spikeless shoes and on nice days felt like I was gonna break myself from lack of movement. Shoes don't show on the score card but they do make a difference. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Rickp
Play better, no. I wear them for comfort and safety. I used to walk and comfortable shoes are a necessity. We play in mornings when grass is wet and slipping is a big concern. Don't need broken hips. Seriously I did tear my meniscus 4 years walking an Exec with sneakers. I took a “shortcut†From green to next tee and slipped going up a hill. Luckily SWMBO was also there riding in our cart so she saved my fat butt. PING Apologist #9
It took me 35 years of blisters (9 years of them caddying as well as playing) to finally learn that good socks are worth the money. chasec
I would fully expect that a pair of well fitting, comfortable shoes would improve you scores / ability to execute over the course of a four hour day. Your ability to plant firmly and make an athletic motion with a golf club go thru your feet, so why wouldn't you spend some time and effort to make sure you have a pair of shoes that allows you to perform at your best? This is different than saying 'go buy brand X' or ' go buy the most expensive shoe' because your individual performance and needs will vary. I think it is similar to a saddle or handlebars on a road bike...you want something that fits you, and fits well. The same obviously goes for your interaction with your grip and glove...only other physical connection to your equipment. Cbk57
I am actually surprised that use of golf shoes is even debatable. If we were on dry level ground all of the time, I don't know that you need them, but terrain is inherently uneven, sprinklers running when you least expect, have to hit a shot near water, etc. I have played without them, but prefer not to. I started out playing on the old fashion metal spikes. Many older golfers will probably relate to this, the feeling that holes were being slowly drilled into the bottom of your feet after walking 18 holes. I always wore them though even if painful because I knew they gave me more control. No3PuttLaLa
I wouldn't say that any particular shoe will shave strokes off of your game. Although, many manufacturers would like to make that claim. Coming from the someone who used to work for a very large athletics manufacturer, there is absolutely no way that they could legitimately state a shoe can help in your performance. However, They can absolutely help traction (so your not slipping in your swing), underfoot comfort (reduce shock and impact on your joints), and even rotation/lateral stability (again, to help your performance to create energy from the ground). That being said, I despise the skechers brand as I think their product is cheaply made, but I absolutely swear by their GoGolf spikes. The underfoot comfort is leagues above any of the other brands. I like to walk on the course and have not had any knee or lower back pain. I experienced severe pain and loss of toenail in the UA spikeless.
