Wedges...

I'm still pretty new a golf only been playing little over a year or so and I hit my wedges really clean love the way they feel. I have 56 degree and 60 degree vokey, would it be stupid of me to get like a 48 degree vokey and use that as my pitching/approach wedge instead of using the ones I have (Nike vapor fly)? What are yalls thoughts??

Nope.. Hitting short distances are about touch and placement. Consistent feel across the wedges is a great idea.

Do you have a gap wedge now? If so what loft is it? If not, what loft is your pitching wedge?

I have stayed with the PW and GW with my set of irons (Adams XTD Tours) for this reason: I am never use them for anything other than a full swing. For me, they function entirely as my 10 iron and 11 iron.

 

Once I get to my 55° wedge, I'm using it for all kinds of partial swings, and that's when the versatility of an actual wedge comes into play.

 

So that would be a big part of my answer: do you use your PW for "wedge-like" shots? If so, replacing it with an actual wedge (like a Vokey) is absolutely worth considering.

A 48 is a strong gap/ weak PW, depending on your set. If it is similar loft to what your gap wedge is and you like to open the face up a bit, it might be worth it because non-set gap wedges allow more versatility around the greens. Just my .02

I would use your set PW, think of it as a 10 iron. With your 56 and 60, to fill that gap look at a 51-52°.

 

But like everyone else said, check your gaps. You might find that a 52 goes rough the same as your PW, or the 56 is near the 60.

 

Depends on the types of shots you want to use it for.

The A wedge for the vapor fly is 49* so you can either have the wedge bent to 49* which adds bounce or keep it stock 48* and realize it will go a little further. Do whatever fits in your distance gap and how you use that wedge, ie full shots, pitch, chips, etc...

Last season I switch from using the gap wedge from my set to a wedge the same make and model as my 54 and 58.  The new 50 wedge seems easier to use around the greens and I did not notice a difference with full shots.  Depending on what type of clubs you play and how much they spin a 50 degree club from a "set" might spin less than a 50 degree designed like your sand wedge.  Full shots might not go quite as far because of the increased spin but you could also get more spin around the greens.

True! I didn't pay attention to this when buying my last set. They had really soft shafts for full shots and I ballooned the heck out of them with no distance or spin.

Exactly this 4 or 5 degrees between wedges make the most sense.

 

We once did a MGS test for SCOR where the corresponding SCOR wedge showed a tighter dispersion than the wedges that came with our sets but I don't know if that would hold for another stand alone wedge.

It's personal preference but some considerations should be accounted for. What's your wedge setup after 9i, how do you use your pw, what are you hoping to gain by swapping to a non set wedge

Thanks everyone for your input, I'm thinking I'm going to pick up the vokey 48 try that out for awhile, but still keep the pitching wedge around.

Your pw is 44 degrees so you might be better off going with a 50 since your SW is 56. It would give you sixth degree gaps from pw to SW.
