#CobraCONNECT Challenge: Full Bag Edition-Pre Chatter

Recommended Posts

So after some questions by the Cobra Testers, I thought it would be good to have place for them to discuss whatever they would like about the upcoming challenge.

Also a place for everyone else to ask them whatever you'd like to know about their current thoughts on how they may go about choosing their bag setup.

Remember most of their background will be covered in stage one. So don't make them spoil all the stage one info.

I'll get it started.

What was your main interest in wanting to be part of this testing. Other than the free clubs

Having tested and reviewed both the Cobra Bio Cell and F6 irons, this F8 test was going to add Driver/Fairways/Hybrids to the mix as well as the analytics from Arccos which takes the review to a whole new level.  I just hoped that my past diligence would garner a spot in this test as well.  Currently gaming the F6's, I did not need the new clubs but was fascinated by the Arccos tracking system.

Adding Social Media to the mix will also enhance the review process.

I'm curious if testers are going to go in a different direction like single length or try to match their current setups but with the F8 clubs.

Also wondering if there will be any fitting advice from Cobra or if folks just order what they think is best.

Generally speaking, you must inform the OEM of any non standard adjustments, such as Lie, Shaft Length, Oversize grips, etc.

That is why GSpyRob said it would be beneficial for the Testers selected to schedule their own F8 fitting as soon as possible.

Although I have two previous sets at 2* Flat, I shall be scheduling my fitting this week.

Great idea for an open discussion on our pre-thoughts after being selected.

There is a tech fitter from Cobra Golf about 40 minutes away from me so I'm going to get fit by him after my trip to Pinehurst.  How I am going to choose what is going in the bag ?  Simple - I'm going to have some heavy discussions with the fitter and figure out what will be the best fit for my current swing.  If he says I'm better off with a 5-GW and hybrids on the bottom to replace the long irons, that's what I'm going to do.  If he says I'm hitting the long irons well, then I'll go 4- GW.  I'm going in with an open mind with the F8 series, without any preconceived notions as to what I should be playing.  The only firm decision I'm am going make is that I will be going with the F8 one length set because I've been intrigued by the one iron length thought and it might help eliminate positioning issues that come with different length irons.

When the contest was first announced, I had to think long and hard if I wanted to even participate!  Even though you get to keep the entire set and bag, make no doubt about it that it is a season long commitment to test and report on the Cobra clubs here and through social media and how they are helping or not helping in attaining the goals mentioned in my entry.  It is going to be a lot of work, but fun work! :D  I like the synergy of Arccos reporting the hard facts that can show my strengths and weaknesses and Cobra potentially being able to mitigate those weaknesses through the technology engineered within those clubs.  So why my interest in wanting to participate in this testing opportunity ? To test out the single length cobra irons and see if the single length theory can really make a difference as a high handicapper to drop my handicap; to see if the Arccos system can give me cold hard numbers and allow me to come up with a solid game plan to practice my shortcomings and to make my game better!  Keeping the clubs and bag is just an extra plus!

As we start this journey together, don't be afraid to ask us questions!  This will be a learning experience for us all and hopefully the Cobras blend of engineering and technology will help us all become better golfers :D

Cobra will be sending us the Arccos 360 system so that we can use our current clubs as a baseline so I've started reading up on  Arccos.  Just two things that I have come across:

  • Per the the Arccos quick start guide, Arccos requires that your phone be in your front lead pocket (right front pocket if you are a lefty and left front pocket if your are right handed).  This is so the sensor can detect the swing and record data.  I don't know about you, but my phone is not small.  I don't know if I'm going to like that.
  • Anybody have a counter balanced putter with a weight ?  If you do, you are going to have some issues as all the sensors including the putter screws into the grip.  My current putter changed mid-season last year to a Nike counter balanced putter so there is a weight screw already in the butt end of the grip.  Slight problem there.  For the purpose of testing, I'll switch back to my Bettinardi C03 since I had putted with that for years until I did some experiments with it last year and shortened it too much.  I'll have it extended and use it once more.

That's all I have for now.  Don't be afraid to ask your questions - fire away!

Yungkory - agreed.  Interested to see if the "CNC milled driver face paired with 360° Aero Technology" will really help with distance on mis-hits and put the ball further out there than my current driver, the TM R15.

As I stated in a previous post, I'll be getting fit by the Cobra tech fitter in my area. I believe he has access to a trackman so I'll be able to get some baseline numbers with my current gamers and get optimally fitted for the Cobra One irons/wedges and hybrids and driver.  Hopefully the optimized fitting will allow me to hit the ball a little better, thus dropping my handicap abit. :D

I'm going to go with the Single Length irons but will be fit and have some in depth discussions with the local Cobra Tech Rep as to what will work best for me in terms of set makeup.  I've been usually traditional on what went in my bag going 3-pw, driver, 3W, hybrid and a couple wedges.

I'm sure there are authorized Cobra fitters in your area.  Maybe we can ask Cobra how to find out as I'm sure others may have that same question.  As a lefty, it's imperative that I not only find one, but make sure they have lefty heads to try out as they tend to not have the demo heads even though they have the Cobra cart.  It's sometimes like trying to catch a greased pig in barrel :D

Great stuff!  I wonder if you can find a clip on phone holder?  They use to make one where you could clip your phone on your belt. That way it won't be squashing up your pocket and it would be out doing the same job.  Probably much more comfortable.

Not sure about the belt clip. The instructions specifically stated it needed to be in the front pocket to get the sensor information accurately. I guess this is one of the things I'll test out 😁

GolfSpy Rob informed us our info has been sent to Cobra yesterday to start us on our way on the Cobra Golf Connect Challenge II sponsored by MyGolf Spy. We will shortly be receiving the ArccosGolf 360 sensors to put on our current sticks to gather a baseline. So psyched to be on our way to this season long test!

It's something that I am going to have to get used to also. I'm quite fussy with my "comfort" when playing lol. In saying that, i used to take my wedding ring off when playing because it annoyed me. Then one day, I forgot to and I played lights out. Needless to say i don't even notice it now.

I am going to get fitted in about an hour here. I haven't been fit for about 7 years and my current clubs are all around that age also. This is a great opportunity to upgrade gear and see the advancements in the tech.

For me, I liked the idea of being able to try (and ultimately keep lol) new clubs along with reporting real feedback to a golfing community who actually gives a s***! Not just my friends on SM LOL.

The Cobra Connect / Accros is an exciting proposition. I have been wanting to improve my stats tracking for some time now and actually learn from my game. I look forward to getting it set up in the coming weeks and getting my baseline locked and loaded.

I hope I can deliver a good end product for you all!!

Anybody have a counter balanced putter with a weight ? If you do, you are going to have some issues as all the sensors including the putter screws into the grip. I'll have it extended and use it once more.

I can't guarantee that it would work for the Arccos sensors, but I had the same issue with Game Golf. I ended up taking one of the tags, cutting off the plastic post, and using double-sided tape to stick it to the butt end of my putter grip (using a SuperStroke with the CounterCore weight).

Obviously, the Arccos sensors work differently, because they pick up the vibration from impact. But it's worth looking at. I have to imagine they have some kind of discussion forum where other people have talked about workarounds that they've tried.
