College Golf Road Map

As some of you might know I've started The First Tee here in my hometown. So far so good. As I continue working toward us becoming a Chapter over the next couple of years I do a lot of research etc. The other day I stumbled across a publication put out by TFT called, College Golf Road Map - "Creating Your Path to Play College Golf".

The document it says is designed for students and parents. It's 81 pages and quite interesting and... revealing.

If any of you have kids ages 7 and up and you or they are considering the possibilities of college golf I think this will be of great interest to you. Two takeaways I got among many were that kids need to start playing competitively at a young age (being careful to avoid burnout) and that the most important years are Sophomore HS through first semester of Senior High School. Secondly, was that college golf coaches don't pay much attention to how a student performs playing on a HS golf team.

As the parent of a D1 soccer player, I can also tell you that academics are more important than you can imagine. When a coach looks at your child as a potential athlete, the ability to multitask & achieve academic success is a big factor. The coach can then work with the college admin to funnel academic money your way! A player who might be borderline grades-wise won't get the benefit of the doubt. Chances are your kid will give you the â€œrolling eyes emojiâ€. Let a college coach tell them the truth.
