The Masters 2018 - Official thread

I'm not a big fan of the kid but he's finished leading as many rounds at Augusta as Tiger has. Come on now. Tiger has done some embarrassing crap with the best of em..

Edit: no secret that Rors is my fave of the younger bunch but even he has embarrassed himself. People were talking about "McIlroying it" when refering to blowing it after 2011.

Sorry man. You tee'd that one up for me. And I took the drop.

And yes, I'm not sure Tiger knows what fairways look like some rounds.

I"m not a rules guru....can someone explain why Sergio did drop up by the hazard, or even on the other side?  his ball did cross and went in by the green.....couldn't he drop and chip?

Couldn't drop on the other side with keeping equal distance from the entry point of the hazard and the pin. He could have moved up but he liked that yardage so he kept dropping there

Watching the "Masters on the Range" stream really opened my eye to the number of players who use various training devices and tools - and there are some weird ones out there. It seems like the common belief is that a lot of those things are gimmicky but hell, if these guys are using them they must do something, right? Even if it just improves the mental game?

I'm sure you all know more about the game and the hole than me but after the second didn't stick, wouldn't it be time to try something different? Maybe stick it in the bunker so it doesn't run off the green again? I'm not sure how tight things are with patrons and so forth, but there's got to be someplace to land that where you don't have anywhere near the risk of it backing up off the green.

I'm legitimately asking the question, why?

Even too touring pros crack. While mental toughness is hard to define I doubt many would put Sergio at the top of that list. After two he's thinking, “screw it”. Hogan, Nicklaus, Woods are thinking, if I can somehow make 8 I can get in at 75, shoot 67 tomorrow and be right back in this.

Heading to the range. I will see lots of today's coverage. Very little tomorrow and none Sunday - funeral and church tomorrow afternoon 3 PM tee time Sunday. I may try to record but doubt it.

I don't recall who I picked in the contest - 3 funerals in a week will do that to a guy. :(

Also, the “Patrons” really screwed El Tigre up on what 11? That ball was tracking toward the green but that dude basically stepped on his ball and stopped it dead in his tracks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pulling for Tiger way harder than Spieth. Except for my Wilson lineup anyway :)

I wanted to punch that guy in the face for jumping out and getting in the way. How dumb can you get you know. Friggin morons interfering with big Cats round.

To further expand on Jlukes already well explained point. It was a yellow marked hazard and not a red.

Sergio liked a full wedge off the downslope as opposed to a half shot which would spin less. That layup position to that front pin is a dangerous place to be. (As we see)

Can we get some kind of update for the Wilson Staff contest??? I'll take anything. The leader from round 1? Top 10?

It'd be kinda cool to see where we are at compared to others.

Not for a yellow. You have to drop on the opp side of the hazard from the green. Now a red he could've dropped on the other side where it entered. (If he could get the ball to keep from rolling back into the water and rest stationary).

AHAHA that's perfect. There's actually a regular I see at my local range who seems to have a different device every time I see him. I don't think he has a club in his bag that was made in the last 10 years, but he seems dedicated to keeping up with everything the training-aid industry can spit out.

Oh I don't get it either. I think Rev nailed it last page. Sergio is as talented as anyone to ever play the game but there is a reason he has one of these when Jack has 6 and Tiger has 4. Mental game is huge in golf.

Nope. 3 options:

Play ball from the hazard

Play from the original spot

Draw a line from the hole through where the ball crossed the hazard and drop anywhere on that line.

Sergio had No option with yellow stakes that allows you to drop on the other side of the hazard.

He like d the distance and I guess felt like he could control the spin.

When DJ hit in to the water, the announcers said he could drop anywhere on the line but obviously chose to drop the distance he did for the shot he had in mind, which worked perfectly for him.

Yep. It is about getting to a position where you think you have the best chance for success. I think I'm Sergio's case it was the shot he wanted. Watching the ball, some of those shots should have stayed on the green, just some unlucky breaks.
