I hope Phil and the boys brought their check books Saw an interview with Couples. Apparently Phil and Tiger teamed up. Couples and Pieters were up two after two, but that was about it. Tiger had two eagles, Phil had one, and that was more than enough. That's the way I understood it. I always try to remember that I'm not good enough to get mad! I sincerely doubt that I will watch any on Sunday - I'd rather play and my season is drawing to a close. But I do care and will enjoy the early round stuff. gaussman1 Posted April 4, 2018 Share Posted April 4, 2018 Just got back from a weekend trip to Reynolds Plantation and Monday practice round. I won't go into all of my inpressions of the course and the grounds and will just stick to what I saw from the players on Monday. Keep in mind that quite a few guys never set foot on the course on Monday Bubba- watching him hit balls warming up was mesmerizing. I have never seen a player hit such a wide variety of shots on all different trajectories to the same 180 yard target. From knee high to towering and coming in from all sides. He is the only player in the field that can create the proper angle in the air from an out of position tee shot. He looked great. DJ- did not look good and was sort of out of sorts. He and Gary Woodland were hitting balls and playing together and they looked like they got in a pecker measuring contest about who could hit it furthest. They were both out of sync and spraying it on the course. Vijay- was literally hitting range balls with his SKLZ Gold Flex swing trainer. Mark O'Meara was next to him and just amazed. He tried it once and managed a 50 yard dribbler. Vijay was hitting it 150 in the air Jordan- the most comfortable man on the grounds this side of Fred Couples. Chatted w everyone on the range, went out of his way to talk to AMs and college golfers and played practice round with Ghim from Texas. Looked 100% at home Justin- Looked dominant on Monday. Outplayed Tiger by a wide margin in practice round. Was hitting it further and much more accurately. Even though they weren't really completing holes JT made a lot more putts than anyone else. Rory- kept missing tee shots in the right trees. Was trying to hit it so hard that he was late on everything. I didn't have great feeling about his chances this week Tiger- I know his Tuesday session w Phil has now taken over the story but he was quite poor on Monday. Missed tee shots right and left (and these fairways are the widest I've ever seen in my life) and didn't make any putts. The screaming after every shot had me smh. Tiger fever was in full swing and it made me feel a little sorry for him. The fan behavior (sorry, patron behavior) around him is quite manic. Why would someone want their name screamed at them a thousand times a day? Sergio- was just glowing as he walked off the 9th green through the crowd. I've never seen someone bask in applause before but Sergio spent a full minute soaking it in. If happiness translates to good scores he will be a factor again this year. The Ams- Mid Am Champ Matt Parziale- the fireman looked cool. Playing w Rory he hit it long and straight and had good iron play. Did not seem uncomfortable in the least. Would not be shocked to see him make the cut and play well US Am Champ Doc Redman- total opposite. Was swinging 100% at everything and spraying it all over the place. Looked way out of his depth. Maybe he just swings at it that way US Am runner up Doug Ghim- had a good day playing w Jordan. Hit plenty of fairways and greens. Didn't see him make any putts but he looked competent and accomplished. Latin American Champ Joaquin Niemann- this kid has so much head drop and reverse C that I fractured 2 vertebra watching him hit balls. Need spinal fusion now. No chance- not just the old timers and kids, but I saw 2 guys in the field who I thought had no chance. Ted Potter Jr- just hits it way too low into those greens and Bernd Wiesberger- his teacher spent a long time on the range physically grabbing his club and moving it into postions. Was also spending a lot of time talking through very technical transition drills. I wanted to go tell the coach to shut up and leave the player alone. Seemed very distracting. Can't be healthy the week of a major. As I said that was just Monday so Tuesday attendees could have had a whole different set of opinions. Side note- shoulder fully golf approved!
