DMV Local Golf Talk, Meetups, etc {Swan Point - Aug 11}

Recommended Posts

SwanPoint Aug 11 Outing Update as of 7/28

Tee times Confirmed 10:00 and 10:10

Green Fees $65.

1 CTP and 1 Long Drive prizes sponsored by Compass Pointe

Confirmed. Players:  These are just my first thought as pairings, Kind of unofficialy have a match of Moderator teams!!   Only because it has to be 4 and 4, if you'd like to be paired with someone in the other group, fine by me, we can even rearrange tomorrow if we want.     But at first glance without knowing, JB0330's game, these groups are even enough we could do a little  2 Best Ball competition here for some sort of prize.   or we could not, makes no matter to me.

Team Studque

Well it seems time for this thread with an ever growing base of local guys. I know there is a larger PA/DE thread, but this will be a good place to talk all things DMV golf.

Also with many new members, it might be a good time to "go around the table and introduce our-self's" I'll start

I'm Rob, formerly CarolinaGolfer2 for anyone that hasn't made that connection yet, I changed my name as a recently appointed Moderator to the MGS Staff.

I work as the Tournament Sales Director at Compass Pointe Golf Course, about 15 minutes from BWI and 30 minutes from the Inner Harbor. I'm have hosted or entertained a few MGS members over the last couple years and look forward to doing that anytime.

I'm a full time Club-Ho...as has been well documented, and part time Radio Show gig during the winter covering local college hoops...YEAH UMBC!!! and golf during the summer.

Next up....

I'm Chris.  I love golf and the challenges associated with the game.  I love trying all kinds of golf equipment and I accomplish this by being one of the testers for MGS' Most Wanted Testing.   Work in the IT field to fund my golf habit.

I have had the privilege of playing with Rob a couple of times.  I readily admit that I am a horrible coordinator so I will do my best to join groups when possible but don't expect me to try and setup a get together.

Had to read your post to understand how DMV (department of motor vehicles) came to be connected to golf . Sorry I'm from the Midwest.

I spent 2 years in the DelMarVa area on Chincoteague Island. I still don't think I understand the dialect...

Beautiful area though. Sooo many great courses.

To be honest I hated the acronym when I first heard it 7 or 8 years ago and refused to use it for the longest time. But I finally caved as I was facing a tidal wave. Ha

But it does sound odd and probably gives those from outside the area a "what the hell?" Impression.

Jesse here, I am relatively new to MGS but play when I can in the area. I am a Dad to twin boys that are 3 years old so when I can get out I do. I have been playing a lot at Twin Lakes lately but if there is an outing I will try and make it out. Looking forward to meeting fellow DMV members.

Took me a minute, too. DMV has always meant one thing to me, and let's just say it's not a great thing.

How about that! I'm looking at a fitter out by you but need an excuse to drive that far. The Golf Fitting Center at Westfield. Ever heard of/used them?

Here in Maryland, it's actually called the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA). When they switched from DMV, I remember thinking how weird the new acronym was. Shortly after, DMV re-emerged for the area title.

I know the course and have played it a few times but I do not have any experience with the fitter. It is a solid facility and Course so I am sure they would have a good fitting experience. Good luck and let me know how it goes

The guys at Westfield's are good. I haven't been to them but had a friend recently fit there. Where are you located at, might have some other recommendations for you. Are you looking at a specific brand or looking to hit everything and go with what works best

I'm Mike, and I've been playing golf seriously since I started caddying in 8th grade. I've lived in the Richmond area for the last 20 years or so. I've been volunteering with the First Tee for nearly a decade now, and both of my daughters (17 and 10) play. Like Chris, IT funds my golf addiction (I work for a software company, Red Hat).

I've played all over Virginia, North and South Carolina, but I've never played in MD. Hope to change that soon!

Stud- MDGolfHacker used them several years ago. I'll let him chime in about his experience. It might take him the whole 6 hour drive to Pinehurst tonight to re-cap it all.

Hello from Virginia.  I'm Dave, living in scenic Reston, and playing golf at the much MORE scenic Stoneleigh CG out west in Round Hill.  I've never made it to any of the MGS get-togethers, but I'll  keep my eyes open for the future.

When is this get together?

I think the purpose of the thread is to have a place for people in the DMV to post.  I don't think there is a scheduled get together yet.
