Played a rain soaked, sloppy wet 9 holes with three great Spies today.

GolfSpy_Stud, MDGolfhacker and TheWahoo. Thanks for coming out. The golf was great. But the post round lunch was good stuff as well.

Let's do it again and get a few more DMV'ers to join in on the fun next time.

LOL, I spent an hour trying to find this thread (hard to find it on the phone).  I posted in the happy thread about our experiences today as well.  Gladt to finally tee it up with GolfSpy Studque - man's got game.  Always a pleasure to tee it up with TheWahoo and GolfSpy Rob.  Rain didn't detract from us having fun today!  Thanks again to GolfSpy Rob for taking care of us on the course. We'll see about getting more spys to join us in the near future.  Lake Presidential or maybe Swan Point ?  TheWahoo even threw out Mattaponi too...so many courses to chose from :D

Definitely will be more opportunities. I'm thinking this will be a good year ok growth for DMV spies.

Maryland National is in pretty good shape, the greens were still a little slower than they normally are, fairway were decent, rough is coming in well. Bunkers need some attention, but with the rain and crap we've had they'll get them to come around rather quickly.

Glad to hear the course is coming around after the winter/fall/winter/fall/summer/winter few months we've had.  It's probably been a few years since I've played it.

Awesome brother! Andy (as you call everyone) should be calling you about the trade ins and how they are done on both end...

I feel like the first gent/member would buy the irons if the trade in was a little more. maybe not but he hit the snot out of the rogue pros

Ha. It's like the guy that calls everyone Bud but with a twist.

He's there all the time. I'll keep reminding him!

Yes indeed! Had a great time with the local boys. There was a lot of moving parts but I'm glad we made it happen and got together. The scores didn't matter but the camaraderie did.

One nice thing about playing in wet conditions is my clubs got a nice bath. They're looking fresh and clean for the next time out

Felt really weird to have not one, but two lefties in our foursome. WAY over our quota for sure. Apologies to both of you fellas. I kept finding myself standing in the corner of your vision during a swing or putt because I'm not used to people standing on that side of the ball

Best part? Doesn't look like it'll be to much longer before we get a group together larger than a foursome! Super stoked about the prospects of outings in the near future.

Played Worthington Manor this afternoon. We followed an AJGA event. The course is in great shape. The greens were very fast. It was a struggle out there today with the cooler temps and winds gusting up around 20-25. The course itself is always a treat, where as the greens are the equalizer. I had forgotten how critical my this to be on the right side of the pins here. Shot 77, but I worked my tail off for that.

Yeah I guess I made it look like there's something in the works. I was merely commenting on the fact that we had about 6 people almost in on this little round and it was spur of the moment. I'm filled with hope with all these local guys joining the site.

I know OG and DawgDaddy talked about coming up to HQ for a visit later in the summer. There's pretty good rumblings about getting a group together to drive down there to meet them for a round or two as well. Not sure if I will be along for that trip but it sounds like an awesome time!

Just returned to my computer, so this is my first opportunity to thank GolfSpy Rob, GolfSpy Studque and MDGolfHacker for an enjoyable 9 holes of golf and for putting up with an old coot.   Remember, ya'll are still youngsters to me.   While it is great to see new members from any locale, the growing number from the Maryland, Virginia and DC area is particularly great to see.  I am hopeful that local outings can be arranged be they impromptu or scheduled.  While one may or may not play their best golf, the one thing I know with certainty is that it will be a good time with good people.

If there was such a thing as a DMV division membership card, based on my experience, perhaps the motto should be: Have Clubs, Will Travel.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tomorrow, my buds and I will be playing our initial round at our routine venue in Cambridge, the River Marsh.  As some of my buds here know, me and the 17th hole just don't get along.  It is a somewhat long Par 3 totally over water.   A few months ago, I was surprised to receive a sleeve of Titleist Velocity balls in the mail.  One of them was pink, so I am taking it with me to use on 17.   While I would still like to defeat that @#$% hole, if I lose a pink ball to the water, I won't mind as much.   Now if I were to par the hole, I'm just not sure that I could continue playing with a pink ball.

Now if I were to par the hole, I'm just not sure that I could continue playing with a pink ball.

On the Myrtle Beach trip I used to go on, the guy with the low net score (we played Stableford to encourage people to pick up) would get a sleeve of pink balls that they had to play the next day. Bonus points for each ball you brought back.

As I noted previously, my buds and I played the River Marsh.    Had, for me, a very good round, I shot an 84.  I played 17 holes rather well, only had one bad experience, so to speak.  Can anyone guess which hole?    I'm thinking based on some law of physics, the Choptank river is a bit higher proportionate to the size of a pink golf ball.

Congrats on the great round!!

I almost had a heart attack, i thought it read.  "I played HOLE 17 rather well"   I was about to say...that's twice now, pretty soon you are going to own that "be-atch!!:"    So how bad was the damage there, double?

Now it must be remembered that my buds and I play from the senior tees.  The damage was a double, but I had a couple of compensating birdies on other holes.   The course now has what could be labeled as super senior tees, pretty much what some would label the ladies tees because they were typically in the same tee area.  On hole 17, those tees are on the other side of the water from a differing angle.   Couldn't talk the buds into playing them, not even on that one hole.   I think hole 17 and I have become a form of entertainment for my buds.

Hey there DMV golfers, Golfinvegas (formerly Golfinnova) John checking in, just brousing and came across some familiar names.

Glad to see the DMV thread and find my friends from the old GC forums. Played a lot of rounds with GolfSpy Rob, MdGolfHacker and TheWahoo, great set of guys.

Hard to believe it's already been 10 years since we left Ashburn for the bright lights of Vegas. Good thing is I get to play year round but I get so busy with life that I haven't played as much as I would like.

If anyone is making the trip out here anytime soon and looking for a discount at Paiute, give me a shout and I'll hook you up.

Have a good one!

This is so crazy. I was honestly talking about you this week. Wondering how things were going with you. 10 years!! Makes me feel older than I'd like. Ha

So glad you checked in. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum and will definitely let you know if I ever make it out that way. I've heard great things about Paiute.

That is wild, I was wondering what site you guys were on so I was checking THP, WRX, etc. and just stumbled across the thread today.

Pretty much done with the other sites, they've turned into what the GC forums became. So it's good I can catch up on what outings you guys are playing this year.
