Golf gloves

So I know folks have mentioned the Costco Callaway deal. It looks like they carry 2 types. One is a cheaper faux leather that seems to have very mixed reviews and quality/durability seems to be questionable. The other pack is a very nice cabretta leather. I was in Costco yesterday (damn that place) and they currently have a 3 piece cabretta leather glove set for $18. Online they sell the 4 piece for $25. I've used these gloves many times and they're just outstanding. Very soft, durable, and breathe well. I like to wear gloves as tight but comfortable as I can and these are perfect. I rotate every round and these will easily last 6 months with twice a week use. Even at the end of their life, there were never any holes.. Just a stiff worn leather glove. 0426180651b.jpg

I use the Callaway gloves from Costco. Can't beat the price 4 gloves for $25, and with a recent grip change the entire pack lasts for the season.

I have grown to like the Bionic gloves.

You have to be careful though, some of their models have extra padding that may/may not be USGA conforming.

Taylormade Tour Preferred for me in the humid Houston weather.

They cost a little more, but they last a long, long time. You just have to take care of them between rounds. I found that if you don't store them in a pocket all waded up after a round, they dry out and last quite awhile. I don't know how the glove would perform in drier climates, but it's my go to for sweat, humidity and 8 months of summer.

I picked up a dozen of the callaway dawn patrol from ebay for something like $1.50 a glove.... Right before I decided to stop wearing gloves, lol. But I'm back to wearing them.

I've been using PING Sensor glove and sometimes a FootJoy one. My only issue with golf gloves is breath ability. I sweat like it's no body's business and taking my glove on and off for putts can be a real challenge when it's hot outside.

I prefer to go Freddy style and wear no glove. I will don a Footjoy weather soft if my hands are slick from sweat or rain, but that's the minority of the time. Even then, I never wear a glove when hitting my wedges or putting. If it's cold (I can't stand cold hands), I'll go Tommy 2 gloves.

Have been playing the Titleist Perma Soft for the last couple of years and they have been lasting about 20 rounds. Went to replace it last month but the pro shop was out of my size so I purchased the Srixon Cabretta Leather glove. It's as soft and fits just as well as the titleist, no wear so far after 8 rounds. I might be switching.

The Callaway, one piece, Cabretta leather gloves through Costco are $6.25 each. I used one of these for the first time this past winter and it's just now wearing out.  Perhaps I'll give the MG a try next time.  For me, it's usually the thumb that wears through first, quickly followed by the heel of the palm.

Seriously? I had no idea gloves have a potential to be non-conforming. I would love to hear the reasoning, as I can think of no logical reason. If a person wanted to use mechanics gloves, I don't really see a problem.

With the padding and ridges it was considered a training aid. However, there are some exclusions for medical reasons.

I have been getting Asher Gloves lately. They are great quality gloves. I have a stronger grip, so I get the Chuck gloves, which are made a little thicker, but I have gotten the Premium Alta and Cobalt. They have been great gloves, but I wear em down fairly quick. But may give them a shot again when they have their sales.

I am a big fan of the Bionic StableFit gloves.  For me they last a long time and are very comfortable.  I'm still using my first one which is now getting a bit stiff and crinkly, but I bought two more as backups so I'll be set for a while.  I never thought about them being non-conforming, but it doesn't matter to me at this early point in my game anyway.

Looking again at the gloves on Bionic's website and double checking the USGA site (excerpt below) the models to be wary of are the Relief Grip and Stable Grip. Those have some extra padding that may not conform without the medical exemption (exemption 1). The PerformanceGrip models all include the 'conforms to rules' statement in the product description so those should be good to go.

Recent use for me says the regular PerformanceGrip model holds up a bit better to the Florida humidity than the PerformanceGrip Pro.

From USGA Rules:

L2. Gloves (Rule 14-3)

Gloves may be worn to assist the player in gripping the club, provided they are plain.

A "plain" glove must:

consist of a fitted covering of the hand with a separate sheath or opening for each digit (fingers and thumb); and
be made of smooth materials on the full palm and gripping surface of the digits.
A "plain" glove must not incorporate:

material on the gripping surface or inside of the glove, the primary purpose of which is to provide padding or which has the effect of providing padding. Padding is defined as an area of glove material which is more than 0.025 inches (0.635 mm) thicker than the adjacent areas of the glove without the added material;
Note: Material may be added for wear resistance, moisture absorption or other functional purposes, provided it does not exceed the definition of padding (see above).

straps to assist in preventing the club from slipping or to attach the hand to the club;
any means of binding digits together;
material on the glove that adheres to material on the grip;
features, other than visual aids, designed to assist the player in placing his hands in a consistent and/or specific position on the grip;
weight to assist the player in making a stroke;
any feature that might restrict the movement of a joint; or

any other feature that might assist the player in making a stroke or in his play.

Yep. The additional padding in the palm and fingers does not conform the the portion of the rule regarding assistance in placing the hand on the club. A player would need a medical exemption to use it in USGA governed play.

I tried the Stable Grip before I learned of the rules issue, and found it felt too bulky and muted feel. I do like the Performance Grip model though (conforming).

Thanks for the clarification.  I'll have to remember that if I ever get the point of playing in a tournament.

I mainly went for the StableFit because I wanted to wear a black glove and that was the only black Bionic I saw on Amazon.  I may have to try the Performance Grip sometime though.  I'm never opposed to trying new golf gear. :D

I only buy/wear the MG gloves. I usually order about 6 per year. I prefer the Elite model over the standard Dyna-Grip model as the Elite are thinner. But the basic DynaGrip last a very long time for me. I live in a very dry climate so that certainly contributes to their longevity.

Not so surprisingly, I wear the MGS 2018 winner for the "Best Premium Glove" which is the Ping Tour. This glove has exceeded expectations for me and I really like it. Bought 2 of them immediately after the review came out and have only worn the one ever since for many, many rounds and practices. It really holds up, stays cool and dry. Indeed a little thick, but I think that aspect has helped longevity. Great glove and totally "Ping Apologist Approved"!
