Shaft changes

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here do their own shaft changes? Any tips or tricks for someone looking to do it for the first time? I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos and feel pretty confident I can do it easily, but thought I'd reach out before I undertake this endeavor.

Are we talking driver shafts and changing the tip adapter or just steel iron shafts? I've never changed any adapters, but pulling and replacing irons shafts is a pretty simple process.

If you are pulling graphite shafts invest in a shaft puller and heat gun.

If you are doing steel shafts just grab a torch.

Swapping a shaft is pretty easy and straight forward.  If you want to dial in a swing weight it can get a little more complicated but it's really just more stuff you need to buy (swing weight scale and tip weights)

As for tips...

Measure twice, cut once

Dry fit everything together first

Make sure you sand/prep the tips of the shafts and inside of the hosel

Make sure you are buying the correct diameter shaft tips for the clubs you are installing them in (your speedblades are .370 hosel, if you install .355 iron shafts you'll need shims)

Don't be afraid to ask questions!

It's for my driver. I recently spoke with a pro at my local club and he recommended I go with an extra stiff shaft and watching me hit at the range. I had a feeling of this as well. I am a handy guy and have every tool I'll need to do this without butchering it. It might be worth paying the couple bucks just in case. Time more than anything. Thanks for the insight!!!
