What Mizuno clubs to try?

Recommended Posts

Currentky playing Eye 2 but ready to move forward. Looking to go new if I find quality uses Im good with that. Fell in love with 716 AP1 I hit but feel Im being narrow minded to at least not open up to other options. Mizuno clubs I hear are wonderful to play but Im not real familiar with them. What Mizuno sticks shoukd I look at? Im soon to be 51...play at a 12 but that will be single digits by the end of summer. Play stiff on the woods but regular on the irons. Steep at attack and play slight fade consistently. Any thoughts?

look at Mizuno MP 18 MMC- very forgiving and nice to play and feel- maybe try the SC as well which is a beauty.

12 cap, Eye 2 and AP1 are the irons mentioned and we jump straight to MP-18??

I would suggest checking out the JPX lineup from Mizuno.  The 900 come in Tour, Forged and Hot Metal (in order from least to most forgiving)  You could also look at older models in the same line to save some money.

If you're a PING guy you should check out the i200, and iBlade.

Taylormade 770/750's are super nice, along with the 730's...

Callaway's new stuff is pretty damn good. I have been anti cally since I broke a GBB as a kid. But those apex MB and the CB are smoooth.

I tried all of the MP-18 line. I liked them all, and like Meyer said the JPX line has a HUGE following. MP18 MMC were fun with out a bunch of extra crap.

Titleist 718 line is pretty sweet. I only hit he mb and the cb but they are awesome.

Cobra's forged tech, and the king lineup are up there with my favorites. The Tour's aren't bad either.

Good luck!

Maybe try the MP-18 SC. Not a full blade — kind of like Titleist's CB model. Slightly larger head than the regular MP-18, and a little more forgiving.

I have a set of the MP18-MMC models and absolutely love them. I am a single digit handicap and decided to go with the MMCs because they provide a very similar feel to the blade/SC models but are way more forgiving then the blade/SC models. Due to work, I don't have a ton of free time to practice so the fact that I can go from the trunk of the car, straight to the Course and know I will hit solid iron shots is huge for me (didn't quite have that comfort level with my old 712 AP set). The JPX line is great as well but the feel and look of the MP18s was considerably better IMO. Hope this helps.

I am basically the same age as you, same handicap, regular shafts in irons and stiff in woods with a steep angle of attack are all the same too. I started last year with the Hot Metals and ended the year with JPX Forged. All Mizuno irons I've ever played are very low bounce which doesn't always mesh well with my steep angle of attack but for me the JPX Forged play a million times better than the hot metals especially when it was wet out.

IMO both are worth hitting but I highly recommend hitting them on grass and not astroturf to see which if either work for you.

Good luck!

Interesting reply in regards to the bounce. Never really thought about that except in wedges. Steep angle when wet is trouble at times for me and causes mishits. Working on flattening swing a little.
