berkeleybob
So I bought it. Frankly, it's the best golf equipment decision I’ve made in a long, long time. It’s the best club decision I’ve made since, well, since I bought this guy. This Ping Karsten Anser has been with me since 2008, and it’s helped me reach some milestones. I’ve never been able to play with a mallet putter. I find the head size too distracting. I’ve tried over and over to like the TaylorMade Spider ever since they came up with the mini version, but whenever I demoed it, it just never felt right. Maybe because the right toe hang wasn’t available, or maybe because I never demoed the right mallet. But really, I just couldn’t justify a spending $200+ on a new putter, nor could I ever find a used putter that caught my eye. Get Over It, Bob When I saw the KS1 my first thought was, would I really play a Costco club? I admit, I’m a snob. A club from a big box store? These guys will slap the Kirkland brand on anything, from bagels to blue jeans. I can’t think of anything more uncool than to pull out a club that says to people, “I bought this, along with uberfamily-sized packs of toilet paper, trash bags, frozen cheese pizza and shrimp. Yep. I’m that guy. But I can be open minded once in a while, especially when the I see that the club is selling for $110. $110? Really? The last time I spent a hundred bucks for a new club was when, well, when I bought my Anser for $100. Sold. First Impressions Not cheap looking. At all. And it's a lefty. The head is fully finished, meaning that it doesn't look or feel like a Top Flite Gamer, and compared to my Ping it’s a little longer and a little deeper. The Super Stroke grip is more than adequate, although I might change it out for something more suitable to my claw style of gripping. The headcover is not bad, although I wish that they had splurged and used a magnetic closure, since the hook-and-loop feels like it will eventually fail. Overall, the putter looks and feels ready for action. “In the Hole!” It’s more than fair to say that my putting game is inconsistent. While my goal is to two-putt every hole, I’ll give in to three-putting, and sometimes a four-putt will show its ugly face. Through it all, though, my Ping has been good to me. As I mentioned in another posting elsewhere on this forum, a week or so ago ol’ Anser helped me sink a 30-foot putt—a first for me. Still, as soon as I held the KS1 in my hands, I felt eager to try it out on the next round the following day. The KS1 feels like a heavy blade in my hands. It’s listed at 340 grams, although I’m not sure if that includes the 10-gram weights at the toe and heel. Ol’ Anser which probably weighs in at 280-300 grams (I just guessing). So right away, I noticed the difference. But how did that fact translate on the green? At the first hole of the round I one-putted from 12 feet away. I did the same thing at the second hole. In fact, I one-putted four times, and I never four-putted the entire game. I putted 18 times on the front nine and 18 times on the back nine, totaling 36 putts—nine putts fewer than my game last week with ol’ Anser. Moreover, my swing’s tempo felt natural. I never felt like I had to ask for more from my putter on long putts. With each green my confidence grew so large that at 18th hole, I sank a 15-foot putt from the fringe with no doubt in mind. And the crowd goes wild! Who knows? Maybe I just had a case of new club syndrome where nothing can go wrong on the club’s first outing, but one thing is certain. I’m retiring my bag’s oldest club. tony@CIC
Lefty Lament I wish manufacturers would post hosel connector orientation. I've got a F9 5 Wood and a Radspeed 3 Wood - the connectors are oriented differently. One shows + to the right of standard, the other one shows - to the right of standard. BTW, this isn't just limited to Cobra. I have the same issue with my SIM2 Max D (I have 2 identical Airspeeder shafts , one is A Flex, the other is R flex). Both connectors are oriented differently. I stopped by the local PGASS and looked at TM lefty products (you don't need to unscrew the head to see the connector orientation), also my old 410 driver and hybrids - same thing different orientations. I got tricked by Cobra with this with my fly Z+. Titleist has one for all with the charts being different. Callaway has LH listed as well. I am curious the percentage of LH golfers in different countries. Canada is high and it was super easy to find gear. Switzerland sucks for it! I'll agree with some of them - mostly equipment related. We were in PGASS yesterday to pick up a couple of pairs of gloves. I was pleasantly surprised to see a section for Lefty gloves. The store brand was 10.99 - less than any other brand brand. I''ll be doing an 'unofficial' thread on them - but initially, they feel better than some of the other brands and slightly longer. p.s. I haven't found any markings on the connectors indicating LH or RH - but will take another look. While at PGASS I checked out the settings for TM on right handed clubs, so at least I know I need to use the opposite. tony@CIC
Fast response from Taylormade - AND on a SUnday no less! @GolfSpy_APH, you were right - at least for Taylormade . Both of my Airspeeder shafts have RH connectors - not an issue now that I know how to adjust. JRSD
So on my SIM Max i should check the settings and go in opposite direction of what the picture shows or this picture is for left hand adjustment? I know should be understandable but don’t want to make the game anymore confusing as it already is for us Lefties. I am thinking of going callaway in woods. At least know the tips have a line for left hand. My Taylormade tips don’t represent RH or LH. Have Ventus 5R in DR, 3W, 5W.

I remember when buying LH clubs off eBay felt like an open market. So much inventory available to so few buyers.
