I still have my ole "pocket picker" and use it from various situations around the green from 100 yds in.  I mean come on now, a band aid comes in handy when ya bleeding from your short game. 😁The toughest thing to become consistent with is distance control.  I have a Wilson chipper which has an 8 iron loft and with a little practice, it's much easier to chip and run the ball to the hole. You have to hood the SSW down a bit to get the desired run out. Using more bounce and the hands a bit forward.

On 8/22/2018 at 5:22 AM, Jogaan said:

Anyway took the plunge and bought the Square Strike 45 wedge after one practice session and one round I ordered the other two wedges in the set, the 55 and 60 degree lofts.

I haven't had an opportunity to try them out of sand yet, hoping that won't be a problem.

Thanks to all - this has been a really great discussion.  But for some reason some of the replies are blank, but I catch pieces when others quote portions in later replies.

So apologies if this is covered previously:  what was the verdict on hitting bunker shots - especially the 55 or 60?  Does one work better than the other?  Do you still use the straight back, straight thru putting stroke?  There's an Andy North video on the website for a long bunker shot and he looks like he's using more of a traditional swing https://www.squarestrikewedge.com/videos/.  Of course, he's good enough he probably could hit it with Jogaan's umbrella and still get a good result!

I'm just getting back in to the game after a long period of playing once or twice a year.  My current clubs stop at a 50 deg AW and I'm trying to decide on trying something like the 55 deg SSW vs a more traditional wedge like the Edison.

Thanks again for an informative and entertaining thread!
