TSauer
Boy, am I jealous. I'm going to need a rowboat to play a round. I'm glad that Max is working for you. Mine works for me, but I don't know that I'm ever going to get to play again. Sent from my XT1585 using MyGolfSpy mobile app I'll gladly swap you for a while. ole gray
Ping G400 Max Driver Review - Introduction - May 1, 2018 Does the G400 do what Ping claims? Does it decrease dispersion? Does it maintain distance with less than solid contact? Does it increase ball and clubhead speed? Does it reduce spin? Stay tuned to find out what my results are, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. Great intro! I'm looking forward to your thoughts on the Max as that is what I game. You're closer to my age group so it will be interesting to see how this stick works for you. PMookie
At my lesson the other day, I was talking to Jon about the G400 and the TPT shaft he fits with. He said the G400 is a great head to start, but then when paired with the TPT, the distance and dispersion advantages are accentuated. At my next lesson he said we could put the G400 with a TPT up against my driver. I have a feeling that could be both VERY fun, as well as costly!!! Jon Brittan
To keep things ticking while we wait for further updates from the official testers, I picked myself up a G400 (standard) with the Stiff Tour 75 shaft at 44" My entire bag up to this point has been an eclectic mix of clubs. I've had a lot of spare time on my hands, so built my bag off people's bad eBay listings which other people weren't picking up on. I was simply buying bargains, if they were better than what I currently had then they went in the bag, if not they were re-listed at a profit. Driver was one area where I'd struggled to find something that suited me. In my other driver options I got some wild variance. A good drive was 270+ with a couple stretching past 300, but a bad drive was 215 with an average distance probably coming up at about 230-235 yards and a miss being well into deeper cut rough if not into a different fairway. I got fitted for this driver and while I had a bit of a preference for the Ping going in to the fitting based purely on aesthetics, it also performed the best for me. I've now been gaming it for a month, playing one or two rounds a week, it's had 7 proper outings so far and plenty of time at the range. My average so far is now 260 yards, my maximum hasn't really increased, but a bad miss for me is now still over 240 and only into the first cut. I've not missed anything in seven rounds that has been wider than light rough or dropped truly terrible distance. The consistency is brilliant and it just feels easier to hit, I'm having to put in less effort, therefore getting more consistency and hitting further. My highlight drive so far is this weekend just gone. Stepped onto the first tee with no time for a warm up as I'd just rolled up to the course and they could fit me on in a slot between lots of groups.First hole is 280 yards into the middle of the green. There was a two-ball in the fairway in front of me and two groups already waiting behind the tee. There was a fairly noticeable head-wind. As the two-ball in front both got on to the green I figured that with no warm-up, a head-wind and 280 yards to cover I was good to go and didn't want a wayward shot in front of two groups either, so loosened up, lined up and took an "easy" swing. Must have carried ~260 yards, bounced once, bounced again at about 270 and rolled into the centre of the green between the two guys putting.Caught up, apologised, they were both fine about it, stood there smug for just a moment... Definitely very happy with my first "full price" purchase, it's just a really easy club to use. The matte surface is great to look down on in bright sunlight, no distraction there. If I were to have one complaint, it would be the sound. It's a bit dead compared to other clubs. Thankfully, I'm not that aurally fixated in the sense that some other people find it actually affects them, but it's definitely not as nice a "crack" as some clubs. Hardly important when you're watching your ball on a lazy, clean flight straight down the center time after time though. cksurfdude, perseveringgolfer, StrokerAce and 4 others 7 Quote Self taught golfer trying hard to improve his game. I prefer the feel of the weight so far back in the head also, it is interesting how much further back the weight feels compared to my Epic. Also what Jonbrittan describes in terms of performance is exactly what I'm experiencing only I'm getting it at normal guy distances. Heal or toe hits still get out there close to as far as when the ball is flushed. Honestly the longest driver in my closest (G30, Cleveland Launcher, SLDR, M1) is the SLDR. But that thing produces some unplayable shots off of very small misses. I hit back to back drives in the heel at Bayou. In both cases I was 20 yards past where I started looking. PMookie
Great job on the Stage 2 rev.... I really like your honesty and how you were forthright in whether or not you would purchase the club. Looking forward to hearing how things go for you throughout the summer, but it sounds like you found yourself a winner!I second this! Nice job! Marine02
I demo'd the LST during my driver fitting. I also hit the Rogue, Epic, Mizzuno ST-180, and the F8+. I ended up buying the Cobra but I really like the G400 as well. The shaft combo was $300 more than I got the Cobra for so it came down to that. I had comparable numbers with both and hit them on the Screws repeatedly. I actually really liked the Mizuno as well but the spin rate was way high. I've always swung Callaway and expected to buy the Rogue. However I couldn't consistently square it up and it wasn't near as forgiving.
