Really useful video with surprising stats about most of us not being fitted, as I haven't either but finding a good putter fitter isnt easy as said on the vid.

 

The iPing app sounds good but I cant see it in the Apple App store, is it called something else?

 

Anyway, good video and hopefully it will help me and others.

I am a fan of the app. In regard to the video, that made so much sense and helped clarify the basics to the putter world for me. I am really liking this new Most Wanted Monday series and the evolution it has made since it first started.

I'll second the comments for this free app. While I was originally fitted for my putter using this app I've since purchased the cradle ($10) and use it as a trend indicator.

Does the cradle fit the iphone 8+ or do I need to DIY a cradle?

I purchased a cradle yesterday.  What Adam said really made sense if you are not going to pay for a fitting this is the next best thing.  The cradle was under $20 including shipping and a free app.  Most of my putters are face balanced and I have struggled with pulling puts.  Interesting to see what type of stroke the app says I have.

I'm not going to lie that after watch the video I went to Golf Galaxy to play with different putters.  I just purchased my Ping Oslo back in November, but I didn't go through a fitting.  I did go through a pretty extensive testing of every putter out there before going with mine.  Still made me feel better to watch all of the slight arc and strong arc putters all miss to the right.

Great timing for me, I've been missing a lot of 6-10 foot putts slightly left lately. Fortunately my MLA Tour Mallet comes with 3 different pairs of weights. As I'm not playing this week I've changed the heel weight from 15g to 10g.

 

It's made the putter very slightly toe down, and I've got a bit of time to test it out on the practice green before I play next. If it's worse I can change back in a few seconds.

Interesting. I bought a Huntington Beach 3 OEM based on price point and last years Most Wanted Blades. I tend to miss right so I would be interested to see what kind of putter I would actually need.

Funny you say that......I just did some messing around too.

 

I downloaded the Ping app then made a home made cradle since they don't sell one for plus-sized phones. Used it for a few sessions and found I had a 'strong' arc and was making impact with a closed face. Took the MLA weights and put the 15g in the toe and 5g in the heel. Now I've got a slight arc with a slightly open face. I bet the 10/5 or 15/10 (like you have) will be the ticket.

Couldn't that miss to the right be ball position maybe face is open at impact bc not enough time to get it closed. I am experimenting with this very thing using the Ping app and cradle.

Yep, after watching the video went on eBay and found a cradle for $5 for an old iPhone 4 still lying around - so now it's a putting training aid!

Yep I think ball position especially with a strong arc may be the culprit in leaving the putt out to the right

I don't believe so. It was only designed for the iPhone. I'm in the android camp and stuff like this just stinks especially since it's been out for quiet a few years.

Just a guess since I'm not an app developer, but maybe it's not as trivial as we'd like to think to incorporate a whole bunch on sensors/accelerometers from different suppliers compared to just one. Agreed, though, I'd love to see it for Android.

From a family friend/app developer:

 

Apps for iphone are more streamlined to generate. You're creating it for one type of phone. 

Apps for androids are more complicated and take longer to test because you have the same operating system, but with different nuances for Samsung, HTC, Nokia, etc. 

 

I switched to an iPhone simply for better golf apps. Not the camera, not the processing speed, mainly for the selection of golf apps out there for the iPhone.

Loved the video and I even shared it with one of our group who has a terribly "fitted" putter. I mean at address, he has the heel of it is up in the air at least an inch! I give him such a bad time about it and that he needs to get it bent !

 

Anyhow, for Tony or Adam, like I stated in the comments of this vid on the MGS site, IF you ever get sick of looking at that PING Vault 2.0 Anser, I'll help "dispose" of it for ya... ​ ...just sayin'

 

Seriously though, good work again MGS! I learned a lot from that video. The differences in putter types has never been explained to me so simply before-Cheers!
