Jazzing Up Your Ball

I usually go with the grandson's initials.  I do give him foam practice balls and sharpies to play with.  He likes to make designs on them, then he loves to hit them.  I should have him do my golf balls as well.

I always try to remember that I'm not good enough to get mad!

Great idea! But like jlukes, I prefer the golf balls with minimal markings. I put a red line before the number (mentally thinking of shooting an under Par round) and underline the number. I've never seen anyone mark it the way I do so I'm ok for now!

I like my ball to be as plain as possible and I only apply minimal markings so I can identify it. I find anything extra on a ball, including a putting line, distracting

Nice to see someone who shares the same idea. Single yellow dot between the number and script on both sides.

I like the artwork downlow provided. I don't mark my ball. Right out of the sleeve works fine. I don't play tournaments much anymore so within my foursome it's not necessary.

Curious how you identify your ball when your creature is face down?

I imagine the perfectly legal procedure of announcing your intention to (lift, identify and replace) would suffice

I second the Miles Davis wholeheartedly. And, I lose so many balls that if I went with the Twitter handle every golfer in SW Florida would know it. On second thought, that's not such a bad idea.....

Love the design, looks like a fun way to spruce it up a bit.

.
So you're going to do all of this?

  • Before lifting the ball, you must announce your intention to your fellow-competitor in stroke play, or your opponent in match play.
  • You must mark the position of the ball.
  • You may then lift the ball and identify it, provided that you give your fellow-competitor, or opponent, an opportunity to observe the lifting and the subsequent replacement.
  • Note that the ball must not be cleaned beyond the extent necessary for identification when lifted under this Rule.

Yes if that is the rule then sure I wouldn't mind going through that if the ball mark is something I enjoy doing.

As far as the original post--- I use 6 dots around the number on each side. Sorta a family tradition that is the way the old man did it. LOL back in the day with balata balls you could take a pencil and indent the dots in that way. Now I use a Sharpie and yes like others said the dots do come off on the club face and from time to time you have to remark. Balata balls you did not worry about the marks coming off because after 3 holes you were going to replace anyhow

I love this sort of stuff also. I have done this with several of my clubs ill post an image later. I love updating the bottom of my putter once a year. I love getting creative with the designs on the balls.

I like the fact that I get a mark on my ball every now and then. Gives me a lot of satisfaction when the ink is right on the sweat spot of the club. Its easy enough to rub off after anyway.

That's pretty sweet. I like to pretend I'm an artist from time to time. Might try and customize my driver as well. Is there anything wrong/illegal with this type of customization as far as gameplay/tournament play is concerned???

Wow, these are my drawings! Cool! Currently I draw a simple set of blue angel wings on opposite sides of my ball. I discovered the blue sharpie ink lasts the longest. It is quick and easy to identify my ball when the marking wraps the ball a little. No more hitting the wrong ball. Lesson learned!

Plus many players at my course know who hit it when they run across a lost ball of mine. They come searching for me to return it. I once discovered one left on my front door mat.

Some of my older balls have 6-7 tiny butterflies, bugs, etc. scattered all around. I'm hoping that when one of our abundant water moccasins finds one lost in the water, will eat it and die.
