The Tenth Annual Golf Outing to benefit the Lori D'Ambola Fund is taking place on June 4, 2018 at the Ocean Acres Country Club. The benefit is for a young woman, Lori D'Ambola-Douma. Lori became paralyzed 17 years ago on February 28, 2001. She suffered acute paralysis secondary to Lyme Disease.

Lori was a life-long resident of Bloomfield, NJ who now resides with her husband and daughter in Riverdale, NJ. Lori is currently employed with the Little Falls Board of Education as a Speech-Language Pathologist, where she works with children with multiple disabilities and speech-language disorders. She is extremely active and a hard working individual. She is motivated in her professional life as well as her personal life.

We are holding this benefit on behalf of raising monies to help Lori and her family pay for medical expenses and therapies not covered by health insurance. She currently attends Push to Walk, a program for spinal cord injured persons and other neurological diseases. The program is unfortunately not covered by health insurance since the insurance companies say it is not medically necessary. However, with regular exercise and a specifically targeted therapy regimen, her risk of kidney, circulatory, musculoskeletal problems and pressure sores greatly decrease. At this time, Lori attends Push to Walk two days a week for 1 ½ hour intervals at $95 an hour plus an extra ½ hour to 1 hour to ride a specialized bike. In a month, the overall cost of just Push to Walk can add up to approximately $1000, not including other medical expenses that are not covered by health insurance such as a breakthrough medicines and interventions such as the Exoskeleton and other breakthrough treatments.

There have been MANY new advancements in the field of spinal cord injury and recovery, however they are dependent on the overall health condition of the patient. A cure cannot be possible with only stem cell treatments. The recipients of these treatments need to be healthy, active and READY for them to work effectively.
