Supposed to be testing 3 Woods at the MGS LXB tonight. Going to try and get some impact tape or put the dots On my 6 iron to see how my face impact looks. Trying to follow up on my ball speed difference to see if the Wilson's fit me better or if the ball speed on misshits is more consistent.

That seems like a lot of wear for one round and less than 10 range sessions. But, that's what this testing is all about, finding the good, and the bad of each product.

My testing time has been deferred. Will do this test next time I can get to the range or MGS LXB

I cleaned up my irons this morning and was pretty disappointed to feel how rough the toe of the 7i is. That's the side I miss on and you can see and feel what semi-decent range balls have done to the face already.

I pulled my D200 7i out and the face by the toe feels much smoother. And those have 2 seasons of my miss hits on them.

Ok we will go with materials then. Such a shame because they are nice looking irons.

Finally got over to test the lab to do some more testing,   Today was trying to figure out where I was hitting the ball on the face to see if the Xhots were causing the big ball speed variations or if the C300s have a big sweetspot and keep the ball speed up.  

 

I was hitting the ball fairly well today and I think the numbers reflect this.  Alternated clubs after hitting 5 shots for a total of 10 shots with each club.  6 iron was used again. I didn't drop any shots and as you can see toe is my normal miss.  

 

 

C300s seem to launch higher with a bit more spin and the XHots seem to be a little bit longer.   Maybe it is just my lack of knowledge on fitting, but both sets seem to perform pretty equally for me.  

 

i think I have the info I need from LM sessions;  time to get these out to the course a few more times and see how they work on the course.

Just putting my two cents about the durability. I've had my C300 forged irons for about 2 months with about 13 rounds and over 600 range balls hit and my set doesn't look nearly as used as this. I mean not even close haha.

Maybe the forged irons have a more durable coating or maybe russtopherb just got unlucky....

No, I don't clean them on the range, I leave them in the bucket until I hit them. This way I'm not rushing through a bucket, bashing away.

 

As I noted earlier in the thread, my D200s don't show that on the toe at all.

Here's my D200 up top with the C300 7i and PW below it.

 

You can see the scuffing on the toe. It's noticeable in person and you can feel it, vs the D200 which is still smooth to the touch.

At least the chrome is still shiny....

 

It looks like you hit the D200 closer to the middle than the c300, which appear to be on the toe. Maybe it's the camera angle?

 

Are the pics after wiping the clubs down?

Yes the pics are after wiping them down. The D200 shows toe misses too (that's where I miss) however that's surface marks, not actual scuffing like what's happening with the C300s.

 

The misses are more exaggerated with the shorter heel to toe length on the C300s, however after a months worth of use that's disappointing to see, regardless.

I played about 15 rounds and about 6 practice sessions and this is a pic of the most scratched club a 7 iron. Interestingly it appears to be more scratched then my PW or GP which I know I use every round. As a disclaimer I do use the 7 iron as a warm up on the practice range. Also I cover my clubs to and from the course and clean up after every round. BTW what appears to be a red mark is actually a reflection of my red hat.

Thanks Rob. If it's just me, then I wouldn't assume it would be a big deal for the most part. I do my best to keep my clubs clean between shots and I use the range at a nicer semi-private with good, relatively new range balls. So it's weird to see it happening so quickly.

 

If others are seeing abnormal scratching & scuffing already, then yeah... that's a concern.

As you saw in my pic the 7i is pretty scratched up. I can tell you that my Ping G20 7i looks pretty close but then I've been using it for about 6 years averaging 80-100 rounds a year plus driving range. I'll post a comparison photo between the 2.

Just for comparison sake, here are my jpx 900 Tours after 10 months of use.

I've had my JPX900 Hotmetal Irons for a almost a year now and they look hardly used. The Rocketballs I had before them marked up just as quick as russtopherbs c300 irons have. It really put me off TM irons.

I had such a great day with these irons today. I hit 2 buckets on the range, started with some half shots working on my backswing not getting inside then worked up to full shots. I moved the ball position slightly back and I was rewarded with nice high straight shots. I was even hitting the 5i off the deck a good 175-180, which is amazing for me.

 

I snuck out for a quick 9 holes on the tail end of a small gathering, so I just took my time hitting different shots since the holes in front of me were all bogged down, and I didn't have anyone behind me until 6. A nice solid tempo and smooth transition is really all these clubs need. Even my driver was on, so I guess happy early Father's Day to me?

 

When you catch these thin, you're thin to win - lower flight but dead straight. I caught a 6i thin on a par 4 and it rolled up all the way to the green after landing a good 20 yards short.
