U.S. Women's Open Preview, Pairings, and Much More

This week the LPGA travels to the state of Alabama for the playing of the U.S. Women's Open Conducted by the USGA. This is the second Major Championship of the 2018 season.

This should be a good one alright. Almost played Shoal Creek once but things didn't work out at last minute.

looking forward to this. The ladies game is closer to us mere mortals than the PGA Tour golf pro Gods that hit 300 with a 3 wood.

 

We can learn a lot about the short game from the LPGA.

 

 

Guys at my club moan about the fact the ladies play a par 5 thats a par 4 for the men and the courses are shorter, however, when I mention they still shoot sub 70 rounds frequently regardless of it being a par 73 it soon quietens them

Who is Michelle Wie's coach and what are they teaching her? This poor girl looks like the product of some helicopter parents who took an online course and then became self-appointed experts in Golf instruction.

 

What a shame, she looks so robotic out there, no flow, doesn't look loose or relaxed at all. This girl has so much natural talent and it's going right to the rubbish. Sad.

She is the product of self teaching and self changing for many years. She was a tinkerer because of YouTube and this worked for that person or this for another. I heard announcers talk about it last year or maybe the year before, heck maybe even this year. Her initial swing was so fluid and free and then she got hurt A LOT. She is still nursing a wrist injury. If she went back to her old swing, not sure if she physically can or not, she would probably do better.

Based on the glam photos on the golf channel - I think she's (along with Paige, Natalie, etc.) more into the model vs. golf stuff.

When she first broke through I remember the myriad of coaches helping her adjust. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like as a teenager on that stage being told ten different things by twenty different people.

 

I think you're spot on, I just see her and her potential and think of what could have been.

She works with Leadbetter and has been with him for awhile. She's tinkered a lot and has had to get corrected many times by leadbetter. Right now she appears to not really be releasing the club and from what I saw his hitting it further left than normal.

 

She's very streaky and has battled injuries for a number of years.

She is far from those two regarding golf. She may be into that stuff but she is a far better golfer and won hsbc event in march and has played above avg this year

Quoting myself here...

 

Oh yeah.... they really ought to take the mics out of the bottom of the cups.  Hearing the ball rattle in the plastic does not add anything....we can see it go in.

Not much of a showing for US women; totally disappointing!

 

I guess it was a great tournament.  I don't know... FOX and my cable company are having a pissing contest on what FOX wants to charge to air their channel.  No broadcast this weekend.  Hope they get it fixed by the US Open.
