RoverRick
{Cue the music} A long time ago..... I've been away from golf and this forum for most of the past 2 years. I'm making a comeback of sorts. I went from playing every day, to three days a week, to once a week, to once a month, to no golf in 15 months. Now I am planning on playing again on the weekends. A dislocated shoulder and bruised ribs have put a hold on these plans, and I currently sit at home with the week off and unable to swing a club. The shoulder is about recovered but not the ribs. Over the past couple of months, I have been to the range several times and played golf for 5 days in a row. The journey back to good golf is surprisingly difficult and frustrating. I, of course, didn't go to a range as my first attempt back but went to a muni and played 9 holes. I can honestly say that I hit a 300 yarder on the first hole. Unfortunately, it was my second shot, with a 7 iron, and it bounced down the highway and across the street into a cemetery. At some point during that day I decided I would spend some time on the range. I experimented with several different "swing techniques" such as "C Motion" and more traditional methods. I eventually decided to use The Four Magic Moves To Winning Golf as my major "rebuilt" swing moves. I had read this book years ago and didn't like it because I did not hit the ball as far as with my swing at the time. However, the ball flight was high and straight. This was something I could work with. so I reread the book. As far as the book itself, it has 10 pages of very useful information crammed into 191 pages. Hopefully, I will get back to playing and posting more often. RoverRick
Though I wasn't here when you began your hiatus, welcome back! I hope the swing comes back easily. Did you happen to have a Tin Cup bet going on when you smashed that 7 iron down the road by any chance? No, I was by myself. It was a par 5, missed the fairway right, I was laying up back in the fairway, and hit farther right, dropped to hit 4, still had to lay up in the fairway. missed the green left for 5, duffed my pitch for 6, then made a 50 foot putt with 4 feet of break for a 7. The next hole was a par 3 over water and hit it so far right I missed the lake. Then pulled my next shot so far left it went into the lake. Two putted from the drop for another double. Then hit my driver into the woods on the next tee shot, but kicked back into the fairway. It was at this point I decided to try The Four Magic Moves (4MM). I had nothing to lose at this point. Suddenly, I was hitting it high and straight. I ended up with a 42 I think, primarily because of the putter. Those next 7 holes were the best I've played since my return. My wedge game is finally coming around. RoverRick
Welcome back RR. Not gaming the JPX EZ anymore? No, I tried to love those but pulled them left more often then not. I just prefer less offset. I'm pretty sure the problem was me, not them. Now you're going to re-emerge and blow me away. Lots of great new guys here Bard but it truly has not been the same without you! Welcome back. I confess, I did return from time to time, but didn't know my password to post and honestly, it was no fun being on a golf forum and not playing golf. And I'm not sure I remember exactly where the title of Forum Bard came from. I know MBP made the avatar. Your position of number 1 in posts is probably safe from me. I don't have lots of time to post, other than this week, I hope. I would rather be playing golf instead of talking about it. one0wonder
Welcome back in! I can definitely empathize with you on the bad wing problem. A few years back I had to have my right shoulder completely rebuilt and my swing hasn't been the same since. I've learned how to overcome the loss of distance by taking some lessons and knowing now how not to take such a deep downswing. It's been frustrating to say the least as I reinjured the same shoulder about a year ago. Back to fun and games again. WITB: Driver - Callaway BB Alpha 9* Kuro Kage 50g. Reg.
