PlaidJacket
Since all of us here in the MGS Forum are such bad a$$ golfers where only the finest of equipment will work for our precision pro tour game; I've got a challenge for you hackers... should you choose to accept it. The next round you play; use for example: Pinnacle Gold, Warbird, Ultra, Nitro, etc. You get the idea. Rocks. No urethane balls. I'm talking about the balls that come packaged 15 or more per box for $10!! If you don't have one or two of these type balls just look around your course for 5 minutes or ask someone in the bag room. Ok.. I'll cut you some slack. You'll only have to sacrifice 9-holes for this important challenge. (that's all I'm gonna do!) Let's see how much pain & suffering and cussing is caused by using one of these beasts. Or not? Hey lighten up! It's still golf. revkev
Okay - you're on although I won't promise the next time I will do it sometime in the next month. Pre- Pro VI I actually game the Pinnacle Gold at some point - I actually made the classic mistake of switching the Titleist Balata 100 compression tour ball for serious competition - that was so incredibly stupid but I was young. I settled on the Wilson Smart core for the longest time and it was my ball up to the day when I switched the Pro VI in 2005 - I even remember making the switch - I swore I'd never spend $40 on a dozen balls and fought that change by not ever trying one. Then I won $50 in pro shop credit at the end of a season - it was fall - all that was left in the shop that I could afford with the credit were 2 dozen Pro VI's on close out. That was that. I have gamed other Urethane covered balls - from the Pro VI it went to the TMag TP Red, then the Nike One Tour D, then the Bridgestone B330 RX, then Snell MTB, back to the Pro VIx - that will be in my bag for at least another year because I currently have 5 dozen RevKev 8's in my closet. I will go to Walmarts this week. Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
Canucklehead
I didn't mind the warbird. I know everyone else rips them, but they weren't a terrible ball imo. I will agree others you've mentioned are not the best to hit, but this is why I don't apply for ball testing When is your challenge PJ? Or have you already completed it? PlaidJacket
I haven't done my challenge yet. Probably won't get a chance until this coming Saturday. But I will. Hey rev... I used to like the old Tour Edition ball. Remember those? I'm kind of betting that my game won't suffer much by playing a rock. I'll just miss the feel mostly. We'll see. PING Apologist #9
I got a bucket of Top-Flite X-Outs I grabbed a couple of months ago that I've been dying to get rid of. I really didn't know any better and just snapped them up so I'd have something to hit into my net at home. They were like $15 for a bucket of 50..! Score right??!! Anyhow, I get home with them and my shiny new net, set it up and hit 'em all. Took a break, jumped into the forum and lo-and-behold... someone started the "worst balls ever" thread. Front page and nearly 80% of the replies mentioned something derogatory about anything Top-Flite!!! Sooooo, I've been "collecting" lost balls from the courses and creating a "better" range bucket with them instead. Lots of the "#1 lost ball in golf" in there BTW. It seems I get lots of practice looking for and finding other peoples lost ones since I always seem to be on the hunt for my own often times... (Yeah, yeah, I know...they're in my wife's purse...verrrrry funny). So bottom line, yes. I'm in with Top-Flite X-Outs! PlaidJacket
This is going to be interesting and the comments ought to be hilarious. LOL Use any old Rock style ball. Surlyn covers or plastic covers. Doesn't matter. Not sure what I'll play but I have a Pinnacle of some flavor in mind right now. I find them all over the course. Certainly should be enlightening with some of our scratch players taking the challenge. As for range balls I'm not sure about good range balls.... ie, NXT Tour. They're not exactly a rock in my book. Certainly not a 24 for $10 ball.
