Taylormade Hi - Toe / Raw

Recommended Posts

I am really enjoying Taylormade's product cycle for this season.

First the 770's, and 750's. Then the 790's and 730's.

Then the high toe wedge, and black milled grind.

Now, a milled grind raw?

They might have just won me back, I put my old TM wedges back in the bag. The only non TM products are the G, and the putter. Start and finish my par 4's and 5's with a PING.

I love raw wedges. And it is great to see Taylormade release these. I can't do a chromed head as wedges take such a pounding, Raw is the way to go.

Saw some interesting notes on Tiger's wedges:

--- Working directly with master craftsman Mike Taylor — who worked at Nike Golf with Woods — Demkowski received numerous grinds to study before settling on a grind for both wedges that was machined in-house.

--- The one-off "TW grind" on Woods' 56-degree wedge is a dual sole with heavy heel relief. The sole has 12 degrees of overall bounce but 24 degrees in the leading edge.

The 60-degree is even more complex with 34 degrees of bounce in the leading edge, which, according to Demkowski, is "really substantial." The overall bounce is 11 degrees with a shaved heel that measures just four degrees, making it possible open the face for extreme flop shots.

--- Aside from the specific grinds, Woods' heads are made from carbon steel instead of the stainless steel used for most of TaylorMade's Tour staff.

So they are stamping carbon steel on them. Are they stainless or carbon steel?

Says “Carbon Steel” right on the hosel.

I wondered the same thing but the article didn't say. Can't imagine the tour guys would want stainless steel instead of carbon.

The MG are great wedges! I had a set of the chrome last year. The glare and shiniest was a buzz kill! I couldn't stand them. At that time you couldn't get the bronze or black. I swore I'd never play TM wedges again until they come out with Raw for the public.

Crap looks like my SM7's will be going!

I would consider a 54.

Yeah that too. I think with the higher CG on these and the PM grind they'd actually work out well for a lot of players. Especially the ones who it it a fraction higher on the face and launch their wedges high and short.

I need to find a place to demo them.
