Tried Many, Still No Success

I have had many, many putters over the years, both with and without inserts, different weights, etc., but still cannot find consistency.  The last 4 putters I bought were all Odyssey brand.  I had an old McGregor with a rubber like insert years and years ago that seemed like it was good for me, but it is lost to history, LOL.  Any putter ideas for the under $150.00 crowd??

If you've been struggling that much trying to find something that fits your stroke then I'd recommend a putter fitting.

Your preference and stroke is so personal so someone else's recommendation might not suit you

I feel your pain brother. I'm interested in the PING Sigma G Tyne H and the Cleveland TFI elevado. They look close enough to a blade but the wings help with MOI. The issue I have is when I'm swinging a mallet, I bomb the head through the ball; cannot find a stroke.

Fitting would be the best approach and you can do a basic fitting on your own.  Before buying  new putter,  it would be best to understand those inconsistencies.  If you need a new putter you can easily find something in the

1.  Can you roll the ball end over end?

2.  What are the goals of your particular setup//posture?  Or do you just stand in a comfortable posture?

3.  What is your miss when you are putting?

4.  Do you roll the ball on your intended line?

5.  How are you measuring your inconsistency?

6.  Describe your putting stroke and how you power your stroke.

I agree with the guy in the above video. That style of gripping/holding the putting is good. But... that's not the only way. Just his way. If you like it and it works for you. Great!

There isn't one correct way to putt. Don't believe me? Just watch some golf on TV this weekend.

Same with the rest of your game.

As the picture shows, the problem may not necessarily be with the bow or the arrows. Of course a putter fitting or lessons would help. But several years ago I could not make a putt outside of 2 feet.

The problem for me was that I subconsciously read the putt and consciously read the putt. When I added the two together I missed the putt, All of the putts.

Now, I just consciously determine which side of the hole the ball will enter and aim at that point, and then allow myself to subconsciously adjust the putter. When it feels right I focus only on the speed. I also play a putter I can best control the speed, not necessarily the one I make the most long putts.

While I love it when the first putt goes in, which happens a surprising number of times, my goal is to have a no stress tap in for my second putt.

If you have acces to GG or Dicks near you, check out the Tommy Armour putters that are new, I think they are about 100 and have different styles, go roll a few and see if you like them.

It doesn't matter if a putter is $50, $150, or $500.  If it doesn't fit you or your stroke, it will end up with all of your other putters.  Find a good teaching pro for a putting evaluation first to determine if you have a problem with technique or green reading.  With a solid stroke then see a fitter if the pro can't/won't determine your putter specs.  Once you have your specs, then start looking for a putter based on what you like or feel when you stroke the ball.  Maybe one of your current putters is a fit, and all you needed was a lesson or two.  Don't spend money on equipment hoping to fix a swing flaw.

Since we don't know anything about your putting, none of us can give you advice on putters.  We can only tell you what we have done to be the best putters we can be... so far.  There are lots of threads here on the forum about putting woes and triumphs.

Good suggestions, all. If you're going to DIY it, I'd suggest the iPING app.

I was going to suggest this but when I looked on the App Store I couldn't find it. But I did just now when I searched putter.

I love my Odyssey Versa 7H and you can find older models on closeout at many online sites. As mentioned Cleveland has some nice offerings in that range and MLA has some under $150. If you live near a PGA superstore they are a great place to do a lot of side by side comparisons. At the end of the day, the putter is a very personal thing that only you can choose, but if your price is firm the above lines are a great place to start.

Thanks all, some very helpful suggestions.

I purchased a Cleveland TFi6.5.

Only used it twice so far, but must say I feel like the thing is much easier to use.  The alignment markings are really helpful, the weight is nice, and the sound is awesome.

Currently carrying 3 Cleveland products in my bag. Might need to think about adding something else down the road.

This was actually going to be my suggestion if you wanted a "new" putter under $150.  I was amazed at how well the alignment aid works.  The face isn't bad at all.  Hope you find success!

Definitely look into the Cleveland Huntington Beach collection. Several different styles and all have a milled face. Worth every cent!

For what you spent on those four, and what you'll spend on another four, you could see an Edel Fitter, assess what your personal aim tendency is, address that in a custom putter and be money ahead down the road.

Go to a big box store when you have some time and hopefully there is not a bunch of people there. I did this last week at 10 am on a weekday and putted with a bunch of different putters.

First, I am biased towards a Scotty Cameron. Not that I believe Camerons are better putters than Pings or any other brand. I seriously doubt there is a penny's different in the performance of one brand over the other. But that's what I want.

But no matter what brand you choose, you will hit different designs better than others based on you stroke.

I never like a plumber neck putter. But after spend time hitting every Scotty they had, I found that the Newport 2 was the best when I moved back to the 10 foot range.

This simply reinforces the "Get Fit" theme, even if it is a self-fit.
