First unofficial MGS Hard Rock Challenge

Recommended Posts

Thanks to PlaidJacket for starting the Hard Rock Challenge https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/23816-take-the-hard-rock-challenge/?do=findComment&comment=414702, I had an idea about an actual "tournament" and he gave me his blessing.  Yes, we all know that we won't be playing the same course. Yes, we know that some are more difficult than others.  Don't worry about it, pick your favorite and let the rocks fly!

P.S.  Extra points for those brave enough to hit a Top Flite XL.  The fact that sound and feel of these give me the same feeling of nails on a chalkboard makes this challenge even better.

"Official" Rules:

- Two winners chosen, one with the lowest gross score and one with the lowest net score (handicap counted), rounds posted in this thread

-Your best 9 hole score counts.

-Your 9 hole round MUST include at least one par 5 and one par 3

- You must play with a golf ball made of the finest rock variety available (see list below) *we need photos of that surlyn covered rock!

- Hard Rock tournament rounds take place from 6/1- 6/31(aka 7/1), to account for weather/work/etc.

- Have fun!

Balls that made the cut:

*any ball with Titanium in the brand or model i.e. Ti-Tech

Top Flite:

-Any XL Model

Pinnacle:

-Gold

-Rush

-Precision  (added 6/4)

Ultra:

-Any

Callaway:

-Warbird

-CB

-HX Hot and HX Red

Nike:

-Mojo

-Power Distance

-NDX

Taylormade:

-Distance

Wilson:

-Unbranded balls in mesh bag

-TC2

-Chaos (Added 6/30)

Nitro

Dunlop:

-DDH (Added 6/7)

Precept:

Powerdrive (Added 6/8)

Branded rangeballs or Putt Putt balls also get brownie points.

A mini review on the ball of choice is preferred.  We want to laugh while this is going on.

Great idea. I hope I win the million!!  :)

You got the idea rolling, so you get honorary membership into the club.  Perks are none other than a blazer made up of ground up Top Flite cores.

The ball didn't make the list, but I shot a crappy net 83 yesterday (98/15) with a Pinnacle Precision. It was in my bag, started with it, and couldn't seem to lose it all day. Although I certainly did try...

I guess I'm the (non-conforming) leader in the clubhouse!

I've spoken with the rules officials after someone called in from an anonymous tip, you've been cleared from the blacklist.

Side note: can you throw up a picture of the beast Pinnacle Precision you played?

Oh man I want in on this but I don't think I'll be able to conform. I can hit an executive course but getting out for a full 9 holes might be a bit tough. I know I have a number of those balls in my shag bag so I'll see what I can do.

I'm going digging in the used ball bin to find one, maybe using my back-up driver as well. Are we taking best 9 hole and 18 hole honors?

You've got all month, hope you can join the fun!  If you aren't able to "officially" join, give it a swing anyway and post what happens.  We would love to see what happens.

Also the list of conforming balls was hastily posted.  There will be more added as this thread grows.

Only the best 9 count for honors.  I will get MGoBlue100's best 9 score and correct the leaderboard. Upon looking in the mirror, I have decided that good help is hard to find (please don't fire me).

We may have to play nine with the hard rocks on the 23rd when we play, that would be pretty official wouldn't it.

That's as official as it gets.  That actually makes me look forward in playing a Top Flite.  Misery loves company.

Yup! Got it covered!

From left-to-right:

  • Top Flite XL2000...CHECK!
  • Pinnacle Gold...CHECK!
  • ULTRA…CHECK!
  • Nike MOJO...CHECK!
  • (wildcard selection) Crossfire C02 "NITRO"...CHECK!

I should lose these within 10-minutes of being teed up...I hope...

Heading out Wednesday (errr, maybe Thursday, we'll see) to do nine at Indian Lakes after work with these roundish bricks. Funny thing is that I had these ALL in my new range bucket that I've started collecting from the course in lieu of using my original DSG Top Flite D2+ X-Outs which I've already relegated to the dust bin... Sometimes I HATE learning things from you guys...My new range bucket now has less than half of what I had started with... :P

Will advise...

Well, here's yesterday's front 9 lineup. I'll try to spare you all the gory details but let's just say it was super ugly, and that's coming from a guy whose game is always ugly. I came to the conclusion yesterday that if cost is an issue for people taking up the game, this is one area they just can't skimp. I don't know how anyone could enjoy chasing these around, even if they were inexperienced. Oh, and for the record, it was 52 on the front. In order...(the first three were mercifully sacrificed during play, the fourth was tossed by hand into the pond by the 9th green.)0604181303-01.jpeg0604181330-01.jpeg0604181352_HDR-01.jpeg0604181413-01.jpeg

Here are my rocks for this afternoon....

IMG_20180605_0908031.jpg

I was tempted to bust out my Burner Bubble Driver, 3W, and Ping Zing2 putter so I could be more "period-correct" with the age of some of these balls, but it is league night and I don't want to handicap myself more than I have to. I have sucked pretty hard most league nights, so maybe it would have been a good thing?

An XL 3000? It is clearly a full 1000 better than the 2000 and about 990 ahead of it's time!

I'm curious who takes the time to put green dots on a Pinnacle?
