AVX vs Chrome Soft vs TP5...

Can someone give me your opinion on differences between these 3 balls.

Specifically, which one is the softest when putting.

If one of these 3 balls not the softest when putting, what ball is?

Chrome soft and AVX are similar balls - except the price - bit are soft off the putter and it will be up to you which you prefer if that's important to you.

TP5 will have a firmer feel but actually spin more around the green - it's a different ball altogether.

They are all perfectly good balls but not the same type nor do they have the same attributes.

I hope that helps

I haven't tried the AVX just yet. But I have heard very good things about it. As for the other two, I really love the Chrome Soft, especially the X version. The thing with choosing a ball is it has to fit your game. If you can grab a sleeve of each and work your way from the green back.

The project (a) from Taylormade is getting very good reviews compared to the TP5 especially for a 3 piece ball. I haven't personally tried it as I'm cheap and buy all my balls from lostgolfballs.com lol

I've gone back to the Project(a) this year. I get them from Lost Golf Balls for about $10.00 a dozen.

Another good option may be the Bridgestone Tour B XS that Tiger is playing. I got some this past weekend and they are soft feeling and spin very well around the green. Not overly spinny off the tee either. Might be one more to look at.

Edit: I have tried all 3 of the ones you mentioned and liked all 3. TP5X was my favorite of those 3 but it is also the firmest when putting, which is not particularly important to me. Which is why I suggested the B-stone.

AVX gets my vote. In my opinion it goes in the order of how you put it. AVX, Chrome Soft, then TP5. I had durability issues with the TP5 and will never use them again because TMs customer service is horrible!

I generally play the TP5 but occasionally play the Chromesoft. For me the Chromesoft was much softer off the putter but I just tried the new CS and it felt much closer to the TP5 than the old version.

Haven't tried the AVX yet as they haven't released them in NZ yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

This is my personal experience. Driver ss 115mph,  7 iron ss 87mph

AVX - Just got a bunch of these on demo day and I love these. This is the best ball i have ever hit into a wind. Not the most feel around the green but not bad. Feels a bit hard off the putter.

Chrome Soft - Great ball around the green. Can spin these like crazy. Not my favorite ball to drive because of the spin but if I want to just control my shots it works well. (I am not a fan of chromesoft x but I have only played a few rounds with them.)

TP5 - Great ball when I am playing well but if I loose my swing and hit a big slice these are gone. I am already a high hitter and these seem to go to the moon for me. Since I play in wind most of the time I don't often keep these in the bag.
