Club head speed

Recommended Posts

For those of you that have used a launch monitor how much of a difference in club head speed do you see between the driver and irons - if any?

Typically 6 iron swing speed should be around 85% of your driver swing speed.

At my TXG fitting my driver speed at the beginning of the session was 88/89 mph. My 6 iron was 74 mph. So right on the ratio Jlukes mentions.

That's a confirmation of what I was seeing today on the launch monitor - only difference was I was using a 7I. Figure there can't be too much difference in the ratio between the 6 and 7. My numbers were 84 on the driver and 70 on the 7i

Yep that sounds about right - I'm typically high 80's driver mid 70's 6.

I'm hoping that the strength training I'm starting in the next phase of my fitness program will bump that clubhead speed up to the mid 90's again.

These are the same numbers I had at my last trackman fitting(driver) and during my Mizzy fitting last year (6i)

If you have the same swing speed with driver and 6i you are doing one of them wrong

If you full swing both driver and 6i, I would assume it would be impossible for them to be the same mph.

I have a feeling I am the closest to that happening. Right now Driver tops out on Trackman at 114 and 6iron has topped out at 102...

My driver speed is right at 100 and my irons are around the mid to upper 80s. Judging from other results that's a fairly normal gapping.

I'm usually around 115-120 with the driver and low 90s with a 7 iron.

I found 82% to be a closer figure to what I see, 98 with a 6i and around 118 with a driver.

Problem with this is these numbers are taken pretty early during a fitting and so i would be interested to see where I am at the end of my round!
