Rtracymog
Is there anyone else like me that prefers the US Open at "non-links" style courses? Congressional, Merion, Winged Foot, Pinehurst, Oak Hill, just to name a few. Don't get me wrong, I'll enjoy watching, but I guess I'm used to golf courses with trees. I hate looking at a US Open course that is brown and burnt out. Chamber's Bay was awful. Give me a links course and look for the British. Give me high, lush rough and fast green greens. PMookie
I'd like it to be tough, but not “tricked-upâ€. Long rough, narrow fairways, fair but fast greens. No 18 stimp or anything like that. tony@CIC
Interesting read on the traffic issues especially travel time from the hotels that USGA booked to the course. Shankster
I am usually not excited for the US Open, but the links style course will get me into it slightly. Toro3150
I do prefer the old school parkland style courses for opens. Agreed. The two courses that I grew up on were both designed by George Cobb (think Quail Hollow at last year's PGA) so I know that's affecting my preference. revkev
Sickle Wedge.jpg I love this! The first Major that I attended was the ‘86 US Open at Shinnecock. It was crazy getting there. We had to drive, take a train and then a bus - took two hours and I bet that I lived 40 miles from the course as the crow flies - little matter of Long Island Sound and NYC that had to be transversed. At any rate we got on the course well before the field had made the turn - no split tees then. I remember standing on the 18th tee and thinking - “this can't be a par 4!†Remember this was still persimmon/balata golf - metal woods were just starting to crash the party. The first shot I saw was Andy North in the rough right of the green on 5 - he hit a shank. Should have used the sickle!
