revkev
I miss the old ABC days of majors, when Jim McKay and Dave Marr would be the lead team & Jack Whitaker and Peter Alliss as the second team. Exactly - translated Fox is doing fine - I love their graphics - they have lots of former players on their broadcast team a couple who won majors, one who's an acclaimed course architect. What else do you want? Oh a classic course, great field, for once a course where marginal shots are not rewarded, names on the leaderboard. The course held up great late when the wind laid down. That tells me 2 or 3 under will win. Undershooter
It is easier to hit fairways when playing less than driver off the tee boxes. I wonder how many times Jimmy Walker swung driver today.I think I saw that the avg PGA tour event has players hit around 61% of fairways and today They hit 70%.I also think they hit 67% of the greens in reg events. Today with 70% of fairways hit, they hit 48% of greens. That'll hurt ya. Wedgie
I didn't get to watch any of the Open today but the fact that I think 4 guys ended under par means the course is playing somewhat fairly. revkev
Watching that massacre today, and how the conditions whooped so much arse, gave me an odd sense of pleasure - as I often marvel at the perfect conditions the tour players are greeted by week after week - and suddenly I don't feel so bad about the rounds way out here where the winds blow so hard so often and make me feel like I don't even know how to play this game. Exactly - If you controlled your ball and your emotions you hung in there today - if not - well that's what should happen in a major. 23 rounds over 80 but still quite fair, yet still some guys complaining, That's the US Open I know and love. Big money
Maybe I'm being a little cruel. But would love to see the leader over par in this event.Anytime I see under par in an open I think they made it too easy. Keep it in the short stuff

Kor.A.Door
I think the wind was a huge factor today. Hitting downwind tonsome of these greens had to be difficult. They were saying early today that the difficult part would be the second shots, I think they were right. By the end of tomorrow I think the leader will be even par, maybe +1, if the wind is up, it will be higher than that. The greens will get crazy fast the next couple days unless it rains. I like to see the struggle. Tomorrow should be an imteresting day. Lefties are always in their Right Mind

revkev
In regards to scoring I'd remind that par is just a number. There are two 500 plus yards par 4's and only 2 par 5's. Four guys broke 70 - I think that's the better way to look at it. This is about the way it started in ‘86 and I believe 2 under won. The back nine on Sunday was an incredible back and forth affair. 16 was the pivotal hole - Floyd grabbed the lead when he birdied it. I believe Trevino and Norman were in the mix - 3 hall of famers - not bad. This course produces solid winners and lots of drama just in a different way from Augusta - it's one of my favorites Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
