2018 US OPEN

More accurately... can't hold that segment (sloping away) of the green with a 9 iron... that's the US Open.

Looked to be a flat landing to me, but I'm 900ish miles from it.

I agree with most of the statements about Fox's coverage, but place me firmly in the camp that wants Joe Buck far away from the course. He made so many gaffes last year, mostly mixing up names with pros from sports he covers more regularly, include calling Kyle Stanley Kyle Schwarber - he clearly has a man-crush on that dude.

speaking of gaffes...not sure if you remember the Koepka girlfriend gaffe from last year but, earlier today he made a clear and distinct effort to mention Brooks and his girlfriend, by name, and Faxon laughs and said something to the effect of "you're a piece of work".... they moved along pretty quick but made me wonder if Buck and Faxon get along very well.

Oh I understand that!

The girlfriend thing really got to him is why he brought it up. Most of the time when he's talking about people or giving little back stories or pieces of info, it's given to him on a card by somebody behind the scenes. Apparently in previous years they used somebody from another network to get this info. So wasn't even somebody from Fox feeding him info. And it was that person's error.

Getting stuff like that wrong bugs him to death is why he made sure to correct it. From what I understand, Buck is a massive perfectionist and OCD. As for the Faxon thing, Faxon was the one who corrected him on Koepka's GF's name on air last year. So I'm sure he finds it hilarious that Buck wanted to get it right this time. Buck/Fox know that he usually doesn't do golf and that's why they are trying to simplify things and use Faxon, Zinger, Strange and Bacon as much as possible. Because those guys are used to covering golf. Buck just tries to keep everything running.

At least he understands that less is generally more from announcers with golf coverage. Which to me, is better than Faldo talking over the players and caddies having a conversation about an important shot or something. That stuff drives me up a wall.

I would rather four days of Joe Buck than one hour of Johnnie Miller doing the open.

You make an excellent point!

Edit to say that part of my issue with Buck is from the Cubs/Indians world series and the way he fawned over Kyle Schwarber and, in general, all things Chicago.

I couldn't be further on the other side of that. Not necessarily that big a fan of Miller, but I absolutely despise Buck. Probably a carry over from his football fanboy commentary.

...is it me or are the greens bumpy?  I've seen a number of putts where the ball is jumping around quite a bit.

I think they are a mix of bent and poa. The poa is prolly creeping up as it gets later in the day and makes the ball bounce or not roll as well.

What, he's only 9 back.

He is beating Rory by 2 and is only 1 back of Lefty.

We have a dual between Tiger and Phil at the US Open

I miss the old ABC days of majors, when Jim McKay and Dave Marr would be the lead team & Jack Whitaker and Peter Alliss as the second team.

Exactly - translated Fox is doing fine - I love their graphics - they have lots of former players on their broadcast team a couple who won majors, one who's an acclaimed course architect. What else do you want?

Oh a classic course, great field, for once a course where marginal shots are not rewarded, names on the leaderboard. The course held up great late when the wind laid down. That tells me 2 or 3 under will win. Just right for a US Open

Thank you

Taylor Made Sim2  10.5 (Opened 1 click) Ventus Blue 5  R flex

Ping G410 5-9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Wilson D7 forged 6-GW -  Mamiya recoil 460 R flex

Edison Wedges 54 and 59 KBS Tour Graphite 80's

EVNRoll ER 5

Titleist Pro VIx optic yellow with revkev stamped on them

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.
