PING G700 Irons

Big irons done right.

That's how MyGolfSpy described the PING G700 irons when they launched last January. It's a hollow-bodied distance iron with plenty of forgiveness, but looks like it belongs right next to PING's better player offerings, such as the i200 or the iBlade.

Kind of a neat trick, huh?

TESTERS WANTED:

We're excited about all of the review opportunities we bring you, but there's an extra bit of excitement over the G700. While we know in our heads that it doesn't matter how long you hit your irons as long as you know how long you hit your irons, there's something about hitting a 7-iron Tour player long that's hard to pass up. And from some of our early testing, the PING G700's give you just that - distance combined with forgiveness, feel and accuracy. It's kind of the Grand Slam of irons.

But do they really deliver? That's where you come in. We need 4 of MyGolfSpy's best and brightest to test these puppies out and let us know if the reality lives up to the hype.

HOW TO APPLY:

This is important, so please follow these instructions carefully:

1. If you haven't already, make sure you're a registered MyGolfSpy Forum member

2. In this thread (and ONLY in this thread - please don't go back to the blog and apply - it won't do you any good!), tell us the following:

- Your first name

- State/Province/Country

- Your current iron/shaft/flex makeup

- Your 7-iron distance

This review opportunity is open to any golfer who inhabits the planet Earth, so we're doubly excited about bringing this to you. We'll be announcing the testers in this thread next week, so make sure to check back.

Good luck!

I'm looking at changing my irons this summer so this would be awesome! I'm usually on a 5 year cycle with my irons and this is the year. Thanks for the opportunity to try and keep new irons and the chance to inform the other members!

-Driver: Taylormade M3 (Project X Hzrdus Yellow 6.0 set at 10.5 degree)

-3 wood: Cobra King F6 (stiff shaft set at 15.5 degree)

-Hybrids: Cobra F7 stiff shaft set at 19.5 and 23.5 degree

I play between 70 to 80 rounds per year. Living in Alberta, Canada, our season is shorter and with work, that is all I can get in, but watch out when I retire...

P.S. The picture is from my favorite course so far.

My name is Bill and I'm from Ontario, Canada.

I've been hitting my Cobra King 2 irons for over 20 years now. I still like them, but they're getting long in the tooth and I know that tech has advanced. Unfortunately, my budget has not 8=) They are steel shaft, regular flex. I have 3-PW but I don't carry the 4 any more so I can have an extra wedge in the bag. I hit the 3 and the 4 about the same distance anyway and I like the 3 for punch shots under trees.

Back when I was looking, I looked at the PING offerings but didn't like the look of them. Heard lots of great things, but the look is important to me. The G700 looks good to me although I still like a little bit of black or dark blue in the mix.

I currently sport a handicap in the 35 range. I haven't calculated it recently as I've not been a member anywhere but my scores have typically been 30 to 40 over par. I used to keep track of my handicap myself, but that was years ago.

My 7 iron is one of my favourite clubs and I hit it roughly 135 yards (used to be 145 a decade ago).
