Good Morning,

My name is Derek, new member here on MyGolfSpy. Been golfing a little more than 19 months. Just established my first handicap, 27.4 I plan to have it under 20 by the end of the summer. I get out on the course at least 1 time a week. And take a monthly lesson. Look forward to learning more here and maybe meeting some locals to play golf with. Have a great day.

Welcome to golf, and this forum.

I like that you are taking a lesson each month. If you can manage it, try and put in at least two hours per week, either without a ball swinging at home or striking balls at a driving range. This way , between lessons, you have will have put in 8-10 hours practicing what your instructor taught you, and you benefit more from those once per month lessons.

I go to the range at least 2 times per week (use range, chipping, and putting) and then I keep clubs sitting in the garage. I use those to swing in the backyard with no ball. If I have a free 5 min, I take a few swings and go through my mental process. I also use a 56* and try to chip balls into a small bucket from about 15 ft.

It's a lot of fun and don't take it serious at all. I don't want to embarrass myself but don't expect to be scratch either!
