ISO Chipping Ring ideas

Does anybody have any DIY ideas for chippings rings that go around the hole? I think they run from 5' to 12' but the new ones are just too expensive. Even some used ones would be ok if the price was right.

Depends what you are looking for in terms of size, if you wanted something small I would just tie a 5' and 12' diameter circle with string around a few tees, that way you can take it apart and save space in your bag. You could also just buy a sheet of fabric and cut out rings from that since balls aren't impacting it you don't have to worry about strength! Hope that helps!

Get a stake or something that can sit inside a cup and tie string to it and mark various points at the end of the string with dimes or flat push ball marks. Make sure to add 2 inches to your string to account for the radius of the cup so you get a true 2.5ft & 6ft of distance.

I've been thinking about this for a while and haven't come up with the right idea yet.

 

My current thought is using some type of hand held chalk roller or spray chalk that would wash away the next time they water the grass. The Eyeline 6 foot target ring costs $28 on Amazon. That's the best deal I've found on a physical ring, but I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

 

Right now I just use my putter to measure the distance (3 foot radius / 6 foot diameter) and a handful of tees to create an imaginary circle.

I just use 4 tees to make a box when I want to actually physically see something. Yes the corners are slightly larger but for me that isn't significant. If you want to see the complete area just wrap some string around the tees.

I've also thought about using fish tape (https://www.harborfreight.com/50-ft-nylon-fish-tape-66505.html) or weedeater line. 25 ft would make an 4 foot radius, 50ft would make an 8 foot radius (too big for what I want). The problem is I'd be spending $10 for a "maybe this will work" solution when the actual answer is only $28.

Unless they are your greens, the management may take issue painting or chalking the greens.

 

The best idea I heard was us a string and tees. Pitching to a five or twelve foot square or hex or octagon is as effective as a circle and easier to mark.

Agreed I definitely wouldn't do chalk without permission.

What about an old towel or bed sheet? Could even cut a hole in the middle for the cup? A towel would slow the ball but I think you would easily know if the ball is flying past or not.

I just use nothing. After all, when you're out on the course there is...nothing. Besides - is it really that hard to visualise a target area around the hole (remember that small target you're aiming at anyway?). Play like you practice, practice like you play.

I use tees around the cup to note my preferred landing areas.  The other idea I have seen used is rubber drink coasters.

Well, you will whether you hit the hula hoop too hard or not so it will probably work fine.
