Made in the early 1990's they were the “players” iron from Titleist. The Black has less offset and a smaller profile. The “gold” was a larger offset and Head for the higher handicap golfer.

G Loomis dabbled in graphite iron shafts and didn't really experience much success. At that time, the only iron manufacturer that really did well with graphite was Yonex and their market share was super limited in the US.

Definitely a great set, thanks for sharing.

90's golf equipment was the bomb.

Tour Velvet and Crossline grips, the Great Big Bertha (the best looking driver headcover ever made) and who could forget the debate between the TA 845, DCI 962, Big Bertha and MP14 irons...which was the best iron?

I actually think before I bore you to death, G Loomis was a fishing rod company that tried their luck at Golf.

This age of gear brings back so many good memories for me.

The original G.Loomis shafts were nothing much to write home about, but the newer made by MRC shafts are very good in quality as you would expect. The ones in the DCI's in the OP are unfortunately pretty average - Ping used these extensively in their irons and woods too for some time in their Zing/Zing2 series. The best thing about this particular set is probably the Neumann leather grips which were fantastic.

I told my son to take them out next round and let me know what he thinks. He likes smaller club face on his irons, like these. I still need more forgiveness with my irons.

  • 2 weeks later...

My first hole in one came in 92' with a set of black diamond DCI's so a bit of fondness there. From there I went to DCI 962's and still think they were some of the best players irons out there.

The GLoomis shafts were severely lacking and pulled them in favor of titanium shafts which were the rage of the day (also wished I still had those).
