Haircuts - Short or Long

Summertime in Georgia is no joke and I always go with a short haircut to help battle the heat.  Today I am going to get my annual buzzer job for upcoming July & August.  I like the short cut style because I wear all sorts of headgear to protect my face.  The less hair packed under those nogging covers is good IMO.  Do you cut ya hair during hot months or do you prefer the same style year round?

I've been all over the map with this one.... short, medium, long, buzz, flattop, high and tight

 

I find it easier to keep my hair the same year round and on the shorter side; but having lived in Georgia for 8 years I hear ya!

I don't have much hair to worry about. Every 3 weeks I get it buzzed at 1.5 on the clippers. My beard is longer than the hair on my head...lol.

High and tight flat-top for me year-round. Marine Corps style of course. Been cut like that since getting off the bus at MCRD San Diego in 1986, though my first cut was, well, not by choice...

Buzzed at 2, the whole way around for the longest time. However, the girlfriend likes it a little longer, so now it's a 3. Plus, with the hairline continually moving northbound at a good clip and greying in spots (at only 29!), I want to hold the line for as long as I possibly can!

Zero fade with 1-2” of bulk on top.

 

Pretty soon I'll just have to shave it all, getting a tad thin on the back. I figure I have 5 years left before I join the Ben Crane club.

Down to the wood on the sides, leave a little on top to spike/fauxhawk. Have it year round, because that's what toques are for Been getting that for almost three years every 6-8 weeks depending on work schedule. Absolutely hate it when I can feel hair touching my ears. Makes me feel like a hippy

#3 all-around all year round. I used to leave a bit on top to fauxhawk (my wife liked it) but now I love getting out of the shower, dry my head and that's it. No combs, gel, pomade or anything. It helps when you are married with three kids and don't have to try to attract the opposite sex. Very freeing!

I like a buzz cut and am rocking one at the moment. I go back and forth between a buzz cut and something longer on top with a fade on the sides but it's more based on my mood than time of year. Having the longer hair on top makes wearing a visor doable in the summer time

I have kept my hair short since my military days in the late 80's and early 90's. I went to a family gathering about a month before my 49th and looked around and noticed I was just about the only one with hair left to cut, so I decided to flaunt it.

 

I decided I was going to have a ponytail on my 50th birthday.

 

So I went without a hair cut for that year. Mercifully, my wife had my surprise party 3 days before my actual birthday. I did have a short ponytail, but Monday morning I went and got it whacked off.

Went one time with a #2 all around.. wife was NOT happy. So I go medium-high fade from skin and finger length at the top, slightly thinned out. I have thick hair pretty much year round. In the winter, I might go a few extra weeks in between cuts. Summer time, almost every 3 weeks.

June July August it's a #1 all over. Hot and humid in the bluegrass during those months. Winter months November December January and February I let it grow.

I got mine cut so tight it looks like my head is white  .   I'll leave my hat off while walking my dog and tone it down a bit.   Heck at 67 years old, I'm over with trying to look all hawt and sexy.   lol

I dunno - I tend to keep it the same length year-round, and generally I know it's time to get a haircut when I get off the golf course and I have wings curling up around where my golf hat had sat on my head.

 

As far as getting a "buzz job" - to be brutally honest, it'd remind me too much of my years in the Army, and I was forced (or paid) to wear it that way. Otherwise, it'd make me feel like a grandpa, even though I am a grandpa - and I think if I ever reached that point I buy a set of clippers and just do it myself and save the money. ... But as long as I can still grow hair, except for that little spot on top where it's thinning, I'll at least pretend I can still grow hair.

 

But your topic does remind me of an instance recently where I was paired into a mixed (age) foursome - and one of the young guys in the group had made a couple of comments about "you old guys." ... And while I am tolerant of whatever the kids today are wanting to do appearance-wise: whether it be tattoos, or short hair, or long hair, shaved head, or even piercings (the nose rings and earring hoop things are a bit much) - MrJokes was wearing a visor and had a freaking Man Bun. ... And after the third such reference my buddy with the sharp wit (and tongue to match) finally turned to him and said, "Son, until you get a proper Ladies Haircut you need to lay off the jokes!"

 

There was that awkward silence for a moment, and then everybody (except MrJokes) was all but rolling in the grass laughing.

Same with me. I keep my hair the same length year round and get it cut every 2-1/2 weeks. When I was in the navy I had to wear very short hair when it was trendy for guys to wear long hair so that 'mandate' made me decide I didn't want to wear short hair again.

When younger I had a full head of hair. Then when the kids hit HS, I let it grow till it was over my shoulders. Guys at work that I golf with called me Timenez. When my son joined the USMC I had it all cut and now#3 on the sides, and#6 on top.

I go to the great clips, the same one for about 9 years or so, and I get 1 on the sides, 3 on the top, blend in between. It's been that way for a very long time, probably 25 years. It works. Simple, easy, and looks good. No reason to change. My hair is thick and is closer to being a wire brush than it is to being hair, I have 4 cowlicks and any attempt to grow longer is horrible. So I stick with what I know. It may be turnin' gray, but it ain't turnin' loose.

Been sporting a full beard since my Navy Days....my hair has been many lengths. Since retiring I have kept it short. Just ran the #4 on my beard and will be getting a trim tonight ....short for the summer.
