OFFICIAL #CobraCONNECT CHALLENGE 2018

Recommended Posts

Now that the rest of the intros are in, my vote goes to Joyzee10. Not only because I think he did the best job, and was the most entertaining, but I think it's the only week he's going to win B)

If this doesn't get your name in the hat twice for the forum member draw, I don't know what will.

This almost feels like yungkory is Golden State up 3-0.

Ok after due consideration and a lot of mind changing, I have decided to give my vote to Mdgolfhacker for a great intro, being brave enough to go with the one length irons and being the only lefty in the group.

Bardle - I was client manager for a team that did a year long hybrid mobile app project for a client. We used a framework for that (Ionic), and it was the right tool for the job. The Arccos app does not look like it's using a framework. I get the feeling that it's native mobile, and that they started with iOS because although the market share is smaller, it's much less work trying to develop for a smaller universe of phones.

Some things to note about the Android app:

I use a cheap Samsung Galaxy J7 (I'm done with flagship phones). My battery life in general is fairly good, and Arccos does not really tax it too badly. The Galaxy S7 has known battery issues, and Arccos makes them 10x worse.

For the nuts-and-bolts of tracking your shots, it's fine. It's no worse (and no better) than an iPhone.

It's OK as a GPS, but not as responsive as the iPhone app. Calculating a layup yardage takes a significantly long press to switch to that mode. So long that I thought the feature was missing from Android.

You only get Caddy 1.0.

It does not have social features.

The fit and finish isn't nearly as nice. This shouldn't matter, but it kinda does. The iPhone app just looks a little better.

Shot editing is basically the same. No better or worse.

You cannot share an entire round. Just one hole at a time. GolfPad GPS lets you share the entire round.

You must have a phone with a gyroscope to use it. The app senses when you swing (which is why it must be in your front pocket, not strapped to your bag or anything like that). Funny story - I gave Arccos my phone information, and they told me it wouldn't work. So I bought a refurbished iPhone SE from Total Wireless for $100 to use as a dedicate Arccos device (no service, just wifi). Then I downloaded the Arccos app onto my Android phone for grins, and it worked. It turns out that the Verizon version of the J7 has a gyroscope.

The SE is actually a very good device for Arccos. It's smaller than my phone, it's very fast, and fits much better into my front pocket. But I don't know that it's worth $100 to me.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds about in line with the driver product I'm using. My pixel does fine battery wise with the driver app and 18birdies running the entire time. I usually finish a round with 50% or more left. Just FYI in case your in the market for a new phone.

Thanks, I hope i live up to expectations..

After your intro there is no doubt you will easily live up to expectations, as will all of the team. I just wish I could have voted for you all.

My vote will have to go to Jeyzee but not for why you think. Yes he's a countryman, I would have voted for Foz because he's my mate but Joyzees smack talk off the bat is a thing of beauty.

The smack talk is what made me vote for him as well

What weight settings is everyone using in the F8 Driver? I noticed the omission of a low CG setting compared to the F7 and Im curious if that was a drawback to any of the testers? I use the low setting in my F7...

Also if anyone else has hit the F7, curious how much, if any improvement the CNC Milled face and other "tech" from this year made over last year. I looked at your old bags so I know none of you gamed the F7, just curious if you ever hit it or tinkered with it.

Bardle:

Arccos said the S7 was THE WORST phone in terms of battery life to run the Arccos app.  I can't get through 9 holes without it getting down to 14% from a full charge.  I've resorted to having a battery pack in the back pocket and the charging cable connected the entire time I'm playing (it's a pain in the butt!)  I'm also thinking that part of the issue might be that it's an older phone and that the battery has some cells that no longer hold a charge.  My phone also puts some heat out when the GPS is running.  Hot to the touch.

Looper - you mention using a device that only has Wifi - don't you need GPS to accurately chart you shots/distances?

The GPS should function independently even when there is not a cell signal as long as there are offline versions of maps available (I believe he said earlier he had to download the courses while on wifi, iirc). Accuracy is improved a bit with cell signal because the phone triangulates with cell towers at the same time as locking on satellites.

Thank you kind sir!! I originally started with a life story of me growing up playing golf etc and the more I typed the longer and more drawn out it got. So I changed gears and got creative.

I have put a target on my back with the other boys now, though!

the F8+ I am using has a 12g at the front and a 2g in the back. I saw someone mentioned that Fowler plays them reverse? If I can, I will try and get on a trackman and play around with a few things and see if the changes any numbers for me.

For my Arccos I purchased an iPhone SE for $100 on eBay as a dedicated device just for the data. No SIM card so no cell service. I would download any course I was going to play at home over WiFi before I played. Get to the course and click the downloaded course and go. I had no accuracy issues and other than missed shots the setup works great. When I got home I could go to my laptop and the data from my round was there waiting for me. The only function I lost using this setup was live wind direction updates since I had no cell service. IMO if you are an Android user and don't mind spending the $100 get an iPhone SE without cell service.

Fowler plays 12g in the front, 6g in the back.  Brings his swing weight up to around D4 instead of the stock D2.

I'm playing 6g in the front, 12g in the back at D4
