Aloha fellow golfers,

I have been golfing for about 12 years, it all started when my boss asked me at work if I golfed. I said no and he replied with, you should be it's fun. He then told me that he started playing golf an early age and was in a junior golf program. He offered to take me to the driving range to see what I could do. Needless to say, the first time I swung the golf club I was hooked! He thought me some fundamentals on golf such as, proper grip, stance, takeaway, follow through, and ball positions in relation to specific clubs. After about a month I played my first round and it was the most fun time I had even though I finished with a 124.

As I started to get into the game more and started to play more often. I started to set goals for myself. I was starting to get close to a year playing golf when I told myself that I needed to break 100. I was playing with a group of friends and one of them was a teaching pro at a golf course. I was paired up with him and he helped me with course management and shot a 99 with a month to spare. One of my other friend that was playing was a member of a golf club and asked if I wanted to join the club as it would help me establish an official handicap and really improve my game. When I joined the club I started with an index of 29. As I continued to play with the club, I noticed that my average scores were starting to go lower. I started get more into adjusting my swing and equipment. I am a personal trainer and I understand the concept of having a professional show you the proper ways of thinking and playing a sport. So I went ahead and got a swing evaluation and lessons to sharpen my game. Learning this way for me was an awesome experience and it got me hooked on the game even more. The most exciting part was when I was going through one of my lessons and my coach put me in a device called trackman and analyzed my swing, he explained all the information which then led to proper fitting of my equipment.

Fast forward to today, my official index is 14, I have been taught by my coach to have a strategy of breaking 40 per 9 holes whenever playing a round. About a month ago I shot my lowest score ever a 79 (44,35). From that round I know now that it is possible to shoot under par. Currently, I'm working a lot on my short game with emphasis on in and around the greens, which will shave off some more strokes from my rounds. Being a personal trainer too has its advantages. I have recently received a golf fitness certificate and started applying not only my knowledge to my clients that golf, but also to myself, and it has given me some advantage in the consistency and distance department.
