Speed of Play

I'm new to the forum so if this is discussed else where them please excuse me.

 

In competition rounds at my local course which:

• plays 6200yds
• Tee is fully booked from 7:30am to 11am
• 3 balls max 
• Buggies by medical exception
• Lose a hole and you let the group behind play thru

My normal round is 3hrs 45mins, 4 hrs max. What is your average round time? And what do you think can be changed to improve it?

 

I stayed in San Diego for 5 weeks last year and  played at Rancho Bernardo one Sunday. Couldn't complete the round teed off at 2pm with an older couple who were only playing 9 holes and by 7pm had played 14 holes and lost the will.

I started that thread on June 25th.  But to answer your question, give me an open course in front of me and I can play 18 holes in 2 hours or less.  My regular Saturday foresome tees off around 7:00 am, and we are usually done by 10:00 am, 10:30 am at the latest.

I play quite a bit at a 4400 yard course. I can walk it by myself in about 2.5 hours.

 

I can walk a 6400 yard course with a friend in about 3.5 hours. With the right four guys, under four hours if we play ready golf.

We do not walk much here in Texas this time of year. Although there are some that are out when the sun first comes up. But today we played as a fivesome. We had 4 rain delays of 10-15 minutes each. Started at 12:30 and finished at 4:40.

 

Normally, we play in 3 1/2 hours or less.

 

Yesterday, the group ahead of us (6 golfers) offered to let us (twosome) through on the 12th hole. We were practicing and hitting 2 balls each and were not in a hurry. I thanked him and said that was not necessary, but look at my watch. We had only been playing for 2 hours and were on the 12th hole.

 

Sure we could have played through those guys, but we weren't in a hurry and I need, really need, the practice.

I live in Hawaii where most of the courses are golf cart only. Rounds of golf can be painstaking slow sometimes hitting the 6 hour mark. If you are making it around the course in 4 or under that's a pretty good time from my perspective. I'm a 5 handicap guy so late in the afternoon on an empty I can walk with bag on my back 18 holes in just under three hours. In a golf cart at that same time I've pulled off less than 2 hours for 18.
