Golf Scope Putting App

Man, I need to catch up on my blog reading. I know I've said I don't like technology, but I am going to give Golfspy Dave's Golf Scope putting app suggestion a go after reading it.

 

Putting is by far, ok maybe not that far but it is the worst part of my game. Maybe this will help me, wish me luck.

 

First test will be this afternoon.

Haven't put it to use yet, but it looks pretty user friendly. Should have an answer for you by 1700 today.

Im not sure how i'd feel using something like that if it actually worked during a round. I like the game of reading the green, even if I am awful at it. Might be good as a practice tool, try what you see then pull out the app to get the right read and re-putt it. AR is a cool technology, I hope more people drive innovations like this into the golf industry.

Right! I think I am a terrible green reader, I want to use it for practice sessions to see if I am as bad as I think.

 

My pace is usually close.

 

I will be using this to see if I hit my line, and I am improving with more putting practice.

 

Just an example, I was practicing yesterday and I had 4 cups outside right and 2' long as my read. I swear the ball took the break up the hill. Boggles my mind. I tried it 4 times with the same result. Getting close to insanity.

I read the article and thought it was pretty cool technology. Then big turn off for me is subscription based services. I want to pay for an app and be done and not have to worry about monthly or yearly fees.

Going to give the *free 30 days a shot. It wouldn't be worth it for me since I can't golf for 6-7 months here. Maybe when I move I'll get the subscription.

Well the first putt was 25' and I drained it. Trying to figure out the app.

Ok, it was 23' and I learned a lot from this app already. I didn't watch the tutorial so I didn't get the recording or use it properly.

 

But I've been reading this green backwards... wow, this app could become handy to help me learn how to read them right.

 

No wonder why I suck at putting.

Interesting. So the light colored lines in the app show the breaks? Do they show the direction?

That's my one gripe. The sun was out and my phone couldn't adjust properly. You'll need a buddy or a kickstand for your phone.

 

I couldn't see the contour lines while trying to read the putt.

It does take a little longer to read the green with it, but if you start sinking putts...

I tried it week before last in Michigan on a number of holes and, dang-it, if it wasn't pretty accurate with providing a line! Two things about it to mention: you need someone behind you holding the phone so they can get you lined-up properly as it's almost impossible to do it alone, and secondly, it will add a good bit of time to your rounds. It definitely slowed us down a bit on the holes I used it. But it does work!!!!

I think my plan with it is to go get some general reads to the 4 areas they put the flagstick on my course. Then attempt to make own green book.

 

It will be good for practice rounds if the course is slow.

Keep us posted. Im really curious how much practicing with it will help you on the course. Also id be curious how many strokes you'd drop playing a round with it. Honestly, maybe you should just do a product review, or maybe I just need to try it myself and find out.

Here's a question. Does it work on practice greens? I could see it applied as a good training aid.

Yes. I was using it on the practice green. It is over cast today, I am going to actually “read the instructions” before using it this time.

 

I skipped the tutorial just like do on hooking up my washer, dryer, putting legos together... I guess my wife says I need to read the instructions first to eliminate frustration.

I hear you. I really don't like the tech idea of it, and won't use it during a round. But for my practice, I need something.

Yes, it seems like a good idea for practice. It should teach you what to look for when reading a putt. I wouldn't use it during a round(feels like cheating) but for practice it would be great.

I will say I used it the afternoon and it does some weird stuff if you don't hold it just right, kind of cumbersome to use.

Well I got it and tried it with some mixed results..

I tied my PB today, and it started with an eagle on 1 that the app showed me the line. Then another bird on 5 that I would have missed.

It totally misread some greens tho, and that could have been operator error.

 

It is slow tho, and if you're in a hurry, or playing with guys that don't wanna wait around while you fiddle with it, it ain't gunna go.

 

For 20 bux a year, I think it's going to help me to learn to read better

Glad you had good round with it Sluggo, I have about the same thoughts. Definitely will help with training.
