Barbasol Championship

This event is sure to get lost in the Open Championship, but it's one I'll be watching as well.  Kentucky in mid July is typically a steam bath.  But this weeks weather and approaching cold front could make things interesting.  I predict Brittany Lincicome will play well and out drive a few of her competitors.

So Brittany went 78-71.

2. She would blow a scratch male golfer away.

3. Bayou from the tips is tough - those are right in keeping with the scores I saw when she used to maintain a handicap at the club it was a plus 3.

I understand she's building a new house and will be joining Pasedena Yacht and Country club. Thats my favorite course on the peninsula other than Copperhead. Walter Hagen was the pro there. I suspect she's moving there because it's easy water access to the Gulf and she loves to fish.

Good job by her - totally lost with the Open going on.

I caught part of the coverage yesterday where they were talking about the handful of LPGA  players have competed in PGA events.  I think they stated that none of them made the cut for weekend play. This actually surprises me a bit.

If they played more frequently they would make some cuts. Typically they don't face the same conditions that they do when they play a PGA event. Longer courses, tighter fairways, faster greens, bigger galleries - it takes time to get used to and they don't have the time.

I sometimes see guys say they wish they could play on a tour set up. No, they don't - it's really tough unless you're accustomed to it.

I've never seen Brittany in person when she wasn't smiling or laughing.

Brittany did great. A scratch amateur is more likely to be north of 80 than south of par on a tour setup.

I played in a junior tournament at Westchester Country Club the week after the old tour event there and shot a 92. And I was a five then. And they cut the rough and slowed the greens down a bit.

Yeah, you're probably right. There have been so few that have tried, the odds simply are not in their favor.  So who will be the first PGA tour player to compete in a LPGA event?

It would be interesting to see - obviously their courses are shorter but their conditions are radically different from what the guys face.

It would be fun to have a week where a guy plays in an LPGA event.

It would be.  It would also be a lot of pressure on whomever does so.  There is low expectation for the gals at men's events, but the opposite for men playing an LPGA event.  Do you think TW's, DJ, Bubba, etc. would be willing to take the chance?

Always liked Hunter and it's good to see him back contending for a win. He's a good example of the ebbs and flows of ones game.

I am surprised I don't know the name. I enjoyed watching the big break and didn't know he was one of the winners.

Watching this currently on Golf Channel.  What a giant mud pit this course is right now.  Most of the shots just land and go "splat".  The water levels in the rivers and lakes of the course are at crest level.  Some of the shots I've seen of the fairways make it look like a complete muddy mess.  How much rain did they get up there, because this course is soaked to the point that it's almost unplayable.

It would appear that Troy Merritt will walk away with the win here.  He's got a 1-shot lead as he walks to the 18th green with a makeable birdie putt.

Hunter Mahan is 3 strokes behind with 2 holes to play, so unless he eagles the 17th and birdies the 18th, Merritt is your winner.

I think she showed out incredibly well and it was a pleasure to see her succeed.  I really do think that if she played 10 events on the PGA tour, she could make the cut on 5 of them.  Experiencing the differences between the LPGA and PGA tours that often would go such a long way in helping her.
