Face Control Drills

Recommended Posts

Whenever I try to focus on releasing the club through impact I'm overcooking the ball way left, but if I don't think about doing that my longtime miss has always been to block it out right. Wondering if any of you know drills to work on keeping my club face more stable throughout the swing. Thanks!

When you release is it a hook or a pull?

Of course you should go see your pro. I have found in my experience that a great drill for me is one that Vijay has done for years and that is put a towel under both armpits and practice that way. If helps your feel identify where the club head is during the swing as well as keeping your body and arms connected. It takes a little to get used to but it has worked for me.

More of a hook. Starts out fine and then it goes left

Then it probably isn't a club face issue. Most likely you are coming from inside to out. This will put more hook spin on the ball. If you get a little more out to in and hold off the release the hook will likely dissapear.

I've had similar issues. As was mentioned, it's probably a swing path problem as well as a face control issue. I was having a ton of problems sliding hard on my left side, which was dropping my path was inside, causing massive, awesomely impressive hooks. So check to make sure you're rotating, instead of sliding. Helped me.
