Oiling your irons

Recommended Posts

Found an interesting article on Mizuno website about caring for forged irons. Of particular note is applying a light coating of oil. does anyone do this or have heard about this?

Hmm, I have not heard that w irons. I did have a SC Studio Design with the black finish for a few years and kept a silicone gun cloth to wipe it down with. Think it cost $4 at Wally World

Basically, if you have forged carbon steel clubs - eventually they will rust. If you want to prevent this, there are numerous options.

Option 1. (favoured by most JDM fans) leave them in a display rack.

Option 2. Clean your clubs after each shot.

Option 3. Apply a light amount of mineral oil to your clubs after each round to reduce the effects of air and moisture - two elements synonymous with golf.

Option 4. Buy cast stainless clubs - they will not rust...to an extent.

Option 5. (the most popular) Accept the fact that you have forged carbon steel clubs and that they will inevitably show signs of wear, age and indeed rust (hopefully in the centre of the club face  if you have the game). The smaller the rust spot in the face, the more bragging rights you will have to your playing partners.

Remember - always enjoy forged responsibly. Forged is for life - not just for Christmas.
