Thoughts? Feelings? I kinda dig 'em to be honest. Have never given the Vivid a shot before, but this may change my mind.

I'd never be able to find a black golf ball.

I can't see very well as it is and with a black one...ha!  I'd lose it in plain sight.

I have a buddy who can't see too well and should wear glasses but doesn't.  He's a good player - probably about a 3-4 hc.

He plays the bright green vivid and really likes them.  When you feel the ball you'll see that it has a nice outer coating that lets him spin it really well.

The ball seems pretty hard but he has a fast swing speed so it's okay for him.

Several different thoughts on two different tangents with regards to Vivid.  Neither may matter to anyone but me, but here goes.

A black golf ball?  Didn't Nike try this as a gimmick with the Tour pros about a decade or so ago, and...???  I for one, don't know how you play a ball that has almost the same color as mud and dirt.  Would be real hard to find in the woods.

Secondly, while I am no Bubba Watson endorser or anything, his results playing Vivid speak volumes.  The dude just tanked like no other when playing this ball.  He went back to a ProV this year, and boom, he's the Bubba of old again.  Maybe it's just coincidence, but if a guy with Bubba's talents fares so poorly with a Vivid ball, it's probably not something I'll put into play.

Again, maybe it's just me, but I honestly think Vivid is using the multi colors on the outside of the ball to mask what's inside the ball, which evidently is not that good.

Being honest, I'm thinking about how striking it would look next to the Blue Head on the ST180 I'm testing and how fun it would be to roll that bad boy out on the first tee.

Some time ago, I bought these SKLZ practice balls:

1000000007314DET.jpg

The reviews are true: hit them so that they land yellow side up, all is well. Hit them so that they land black side up, and you can be standing directly over it in your yard and not see it.

I don't ever remember the color Black being referred to as a Vivid. Perhaps the dude that decided to market a black golf ball has a vivid memory of not being able to find them.  :D

I bought a few matte white and orange Vivid balls a while back and I wasn't impressed. But I may try a few of these and give them another try.

something that I either read or overheard and confirmed is that there is little to no contrast with the dimples. It literally looks like you're hitting a colored 2D spot rather than a 3D ball. I've only really looked at the ball in my hand and placed one on the ground to see how it would look and this seemed to be true.  That just wouldn't be my cup of tea. I would imagine that a black ball would only give extra support to that claim.

Yep Nike did it about 10 years or so ago now. I found one of those balls by accident in a fairway bunker because by accident I hit my drive in there. I thought it was goose poop at first. I still have that ball somewhere here at the house.

I tried those Volvik off color ones when they first came out. Did not like them one bit terrible feeling ball to me on every shot including putting. I remember watching Bubba in a couple of events last year and I pretty much study his game and enjoy watching him play. I had noticed on several shots his ball was not checking up like it did with the Pro V. I told my wife if he could not check that shot up with that ball no one could. His shot quality and play did improve when he ditched Volvik and went back to the Pro V.

I think I still have a sleeve somewhere of the 6 original ones that were given to me by an independent rep.

I tried the vivid pink and orange thinking they would stand out in the grass but they were hard to find. they were like mentioned above like hitting rocks.

Realizing its a photo above and it appears the dimples stand out,  but they do not stand out like that. they are hard to see and almost appear to not have dimples.

I found a callaway super hot and would say they look very similar to the vivid except they did not have the same rock like feel to them when hit.

this would be a good test to see how they fare against other balls of standard white and yellow. Does the color affect the pysche?
