I'm a bit sporatic with my longer woods, so my 3 wood and driver aren't that much different directionally. I carry a 2 hybrid, which I can hit around 240 off the tee and also use that more often on par 5's if needed. I always go back and forth with both a 3 wood and a lob wedge as those two clubs, I could easily take out of the bag and it wouldn't make much difference. I’m in that same boat. Agree on the lob wedge too...I have one but can take it or leave it at any point, but I can’t say the same for my 3w. Take yesterday as an example. I hit a nice push fade in the water on a 500ish par 5. Had to drop about 240 out. Shot was uphill, playing around 260. Flushed the 3w and it came to rest about 10’ behind the hole. Two putted and saved par. For reasons like that, my 3w stays in the bag. Titleist87
My 3w does not get played often. When I played last week (18) is did not hit my 3w at all. There are time that I don't even carry it and will use my hybrid instead. HAC
I substituted another wedge for my 3 wood. Would rather hit a 5 wood off the deck and my driver off the tee. JoceratorsTree
I use mine about 5 times a round on 2 par 5s and a few longer par 4's. If I drive poorly on a given day I probably use it a few more times because I'm further back on more par 4's. Went through a spell of a few years when I never used it but use brings confidence and confidence brings more use! Quote Bio Cell (set to 10.5 deg), Project X, Stiff. RetiredBoomer
TaylorMade's original 3-woods had 17º loft just like most wooden ones. When 15º more or less became the metalwood standard for 3-woods, 3-woods became harder to hit from the deck for higher handicap players. In some cases, players just used them as alternate driving clubs.

I love hitting a nice 3 (13º) wood off the deck, but I'm finding that I'm not hitting them very well lately so I have been going up to the 5 wood (17º). MDGolfHacker Quote What's In This Lefty's Bag? KatoGolfer
I hit my 3 wood off the tee on two of my par 4s on my home course. The landing area on the first one runs out if I hit the driver and the second one is a short dogleg left and I can sweep the 3 wood much easier than I can with the driver. I rarely hit it into a par 5, they just are not holes that you want to hit a wood in to. 1 Quote Driver: Taylormade '16 M2, Aldila NV 2KXV X 3W: Taylormade '16 M2, Speeder 661 X 3: Callaway X-forged UT 21* 4-P: Callaway X-Forged, Modus 3 120 - S Wedges: 50* - Callaway Apex Pro 19, 54* - Taylormade Milled Grind 2 black, 58* - Taylormade Milled Grind 2 black Putter: currently Odyssey Works V-Line Versa CB - 36" Ball - Bridgestone Tour B X
GolfSpy_APH
My 3 wood gets a lot of use. I know I tend to pull out driver a fair bit but my best rounds have been when I used mainly 3 wood off the tee. A bit more accurate with it and still get solid distance. That and a lot of the courses here aren't too long so it's a good option. That or move back a set of tees. 1 Quote as of Oct 31, 2022 (Past WITB) Driver: TBD: Follow here: Driver Shootout! MattF
Absolutely I use mine. I really like it off the tee at #7 short par 4 at my club. I can also hit it off the deck quite well, so it get's used on almost all par 5's. John W Sutch
Use my 3 wood about 5 times a round. Off the tee on 2 short par 4s and off the fairway on 3 par 5s. Set at 15 degrees so works well off the deck. Quote Retired Army aviator. 2 Vietnam tours flying Hueys.
Micah T
I replaced my 3 wood (Callaway rogue) with a Titleist U-510 3 iron this year: I just hit irons better! Doesn’t matter the lie or off a tee: the 3 iron is longer, more forgiving, and more workable: I am launching it lower and seeing a lot more roll-out, but my 3 wood had that too. For me I just couldn’t make my normal aggressive swing with a 3-wood without hooking it left : and backing off to keep it in play made it play like my 4 iron. jnharvey44
My driver recently called it quits, so I go back and forth between my 3 wood and 4 hybrid depending on the hole. I guess that's not the point of the question, I don't feel like there is a ton of difference as far as accuracy, but in this case I'm glad I had a trusty 3 in my bag. Ploobear
Honestly, not really. I use it maybe once a round at the most. Not only is it my most inconsistent club, it's just unnecessary most of the time. I'm sure if I had one that I was comfortable hitting accurately, that'd change a bit, but its use would only go up to maybe twice a round. I swap it out with a 2 hybrid of the same loft because I tend to be more comfortable with it, but even then, very little use. Welshy
My Callaway Rouge 3 wood has an old school grafalloy blue in it and is the most reliable club in my bag off the tee. Hit fairways at 230 meters is a bit hard to take out of the bag.
