ParFore74x 429
3W gets used several times per round. All the par 5s on my home course are almost guaranteed to get it out of the bag with long fairways and there are a couple par 4s that I use it to tee off. It definitely gets put to use. rsilman 29
In the past I struggled to hit the 3Ws I had off the deck but still used them off the tee on shorter par 4s. Now I have a 3W that I love and I use it off the tee and also on many par 5s. It's not going anywhere. mglo35 3
My M2 3 wood gets plenty of use on the course. I'd say it gets about 8-10 solid uses per round, off the tee box or fairway. There's something about the stock TM Reax X flex shaft in it that makes it super reliable for me. Also I might be the only one like this but I can only hit my 3 wood off the deck. Whenever I tee it up, I either top it or duck hook it. But doesn't bother me because it helps for getting on the green in 2 on those par 5's. Jwhite86 238
I ditched the 3 wood in favor of a 4 wood. I don't hit if often, but if I were smart I would hit it more off of the tee. It took years of searching to find a 3/4 wood I was really comfortable with. Now that I have found it, it isn't going anywhere. 1 Quote WITB Driver: Titleist TS2 10.5º w/ Diamana DF 60 TX 3 Wood: Titleist 915F 16.5º w/ Diamana Blueboard Hybrids: PXG 0317X 17º w/ Even Flow Titleist 816 H1 21º & 25º w/ Diamana Blueboard Irons (6-PW): Srixon 765 w/ Project X LZ Wedges: 50º Ping Glide, 54º & 60º PXG 0311 Putter: Titleist Scotty Cameron Newport Masterful Tourtype SSS CT A048277
scooterhd2 492
I ditched the 3 wood in favor of a 4 wood, and then ditched the 4 wood in favor of a 2 hybrid at 17*. Was using the fairway wood almost entirely off the deck and was struggling with consistency. The low lofted hybrid solved those problems for me. 1 Quote 2020 TESTER Ben Hogan UiHi 18* Utility Iron Driver: G410 Plus 9*, Oban Gold Hybrids: Super XTD 17* Hybrid Fubuki AX, , Apex 20* AD-DI 85S, Apex 23* Oban Purple Irons: Z585 5-6, Z785 7-PW, Modus 120s Wedges: RTX4 50, Modus 120x, , Hi Toe 56 & 60, Modus 120x Putter: ER3 @ 33"

AceBino 56
I was on the fence about 3-woods for the longest time myself. On advice from a friend, I tried out some low-profile FWs a couple years ago and just this year I added the Ping G410 3 wood - for me, it really works well. I used to have a problem with not being able to launch FWs off the deck, but that low profile really give me the confidence to do. Next I'll be saving up for the G410 5-wood!!! 1 Quote Driver: XR16 10.5* (set to 9.5*), MRC KuroKage TiNi Black, S-flex 3 wood: G410, Alta 65 S-flex Hybrids: G400 19* & 22*, Alta CB 70 S-flex Irons: JPX-900 5-GW, Proj X LZ 6.0 Wedges: SM7, 54*/S; MD4, 58*/S Putter: White Hot Pro Black 2.0 #

Tom the Golf Nut 2,154
In the past I had some issues with the 3 wood in regard to getting the desired ball flight. I changed from a TaylorMade SLDR to a TaylorMade SLDR HL ( HL meaning high launch) this made a big difference. Now I have no hesitation hitting this club off the deck to try to reach greens in two on a par 5 or off the tee on short par 4's. I probably hit the 3 about 4 times a round. Deuce 20
I use it, though the more infrequently I play, the worse a decision to put it into play it becomes (especially attempting to hit it off the deck). I have no other club that is as finicky as my woods (which I primarily play a 4W/7W combo). Quote What's in My Bag? Sox Fan 32
Yes, an average of about 4 times per round (2 off tee and 2 off deck). 3 and 5 woods have been staples in my bag forever and will likely always be. Not a big hybrid guy.

Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I may have posted this before, apologies for possible repetition.... In Ye Olde Days, the 14* Fay wood was a 2w, and the 3w checked in at 17*. Most players didn't carry a 2w, unless they carried one in place of a driver. Those lofts crept forward in the 80s to 13* and 16*, but still largely the same thing going on. To me, it's no surprise many have better luck with a modern 4w. In the past, I never had much problem hitting a 14* fwy wood, but on the course I played, I didn't find myself using it much. Not many chances to use it off the deck, and my alternate tee club was a 17* or 18* iron. These days, at 56 with a sketchy back, a 14* fwy wood doesnt work as it once did. I have a King LTD and Stage 2 Tour 3w for my metal wood use, in both cases, I've got them tuned to 16* to make them more useful. They find a bit more usage now, with the combination of age distance loss and loft adjustment. The other thing I'm finding, I dislike the modern club lengths of fairway woods. I've cut mine down to 42.5", but prefer to go 42" if I can manage it. Easy with the above Cobra, just stuff it with cotton balls to bring the weight up. As others have mentioned, I've also tried a hybrid in that slot. Much prefer the club length with a hybrid...
