RBC Canada Open

Har in the Hat

Recommended Posts

I thought I would start a thread for THE CANADIAN OPEN. Anyone interested in this? Looking at the field, lots of top players in it. Keopka,Fleetwood,Garcia, and 18 Canucks.

Just a note that the owner of Glen Abbey (Clublink) has approached Oakville with the intent of turning this course into a residential development. This courses days are numbered so if you are in the neighbourhood,I would play it. It is one of their many private courses, but this one is open to pu lic play.

They need to find the best Links golf courses in Canada and play them there. Cabot... yes please.

I am sure there are a few on the west coast too?

Yes, I'm interested in this tournament.  There is a whole bunch of talent in the pairings; many coming from the British Open.  I predict Hoffman get's it done.  Hope you don't mind me including the link.

#72 looks really cool. I have an affinity for mountain courses. I like elevation and pines. Lots of nice courses though.

I'll take Fleetwood. He is due for a win.

you're right. it is a great course. made up of 2 separate 18's. it used to hold quite a few amateur tour events there. My very first golf scholarship was taken with them.

#53 looks amazing too.

A lot of private courses on that list.... dang shame.

And that has stirred controversy. How can private and there are some on the list that are so reclusive that only a few hundred rounds get played a season on them (Redtail & Oviinbird have very few members and Redtail has been visited by Sean Connery quite a bit I heard - That's how private it is and it doesn't have a clubhouse per se. More like a gentleman's club type building that has a servant and Butler to serve arriving members) that people wonder how did they get so many votes to make it on the list.

I do wonder sometimes whether some pairings are actually detrimental to one or all in a group. Seems like an added game within the game; i.e. a driving contest where it may not be the best approach.  The results of these star studded pairings at the recent US Open kind of fizzled. But you're right that watching their ball flights will be entertaining.

Yeah, I've always thought that. Could you imagine if you were a fast player like DJ, and you we paired with Keegan...?

I like to play quite fast I know I'd be annoyed.

Kings links down by boundary bay airport in Vancouver. Played it earlier this year. Amazing course, first time playing links style golf and it took me by surprise. But still really enjoyed it!

I noticed the pairings as well

Actually, while going through the field I noticed there are quite a few top ranked and big name players. Bodes well for this tournament to attract the crowds ( which pales in compassion to American and European events, but is big for us up here).

I think that star pairings normally don't play well. The added pressure to beat the person next to them is to much. They don't play their game. They try to play their opponents game and it gets in their way. The crowds for 4 straight days might tire them out too. I don't know how Tiger holds up with the crowds being all over him.

Bubba with the near miss Dunk Ace... by millimeters.

Based on 2 days performance I think Bubba's wife will be taking him to the woodshed to have a 'talking to'.

Yeah. Not sure what happened, it started over at the Open. He said he was trying to curve the ball less. I think he just needs to roll with the curves.

I sometimes think the bigger names missed the cut at the smaller tournaments on purpose... sometimes.

He will be golfing for a month straight, with the Bridgestone, PGA, Wyndham, The Northern Trust, dell Tech, BMW, then a week off and the Tour Championship, then a few weeks after that flying to France for the Ryder Cup.

Assuming he has enough points for it all, that is. Lot of golf and being the family man he is... I'm sure he wants to be home for a spell before this madness starts.
