Launch Monitor Question

Recommended Posts

First impression, this thing is awesome. Still haven't had the opportunity to get to the range but tested my GBB Epic Evenflow 6.0 against the PXG 0811X Aldila NV2K X stiff green in the backyard. Interesting!

Yup - great little tool for improvement. FYI I also bought it on ebay for $200.

So I used the voice caddie today for an extended range session. Put it through the paces. Attempted to optimize my driver setup but without spin a bit challenging. Changed out shafts in the 0811X, Aldila NV2.. pro green X 65 to The Fujikura Pro Blue 53 and moved some weights around then tested against the GBB Epic with the PX Even Flow Blue 6.0. Found that this launch monitor is great for these experiments. At the end, was getting the most on average out of the new PXG setup.

Another testimonial for SC 200:

Never realized how important this launch monitor can be to game improvement. Went out to the range a couple of days ago to work on my drive (as I typically do). I never realized how significant warm-up played in club head speed (at least for me). The difference between hitting drives cold to when I finished was 10 mph of club head speed. It was an ah ha moment for me because I was always a bit frustrated playing - when I'd start on #1, my distance was nowhere as long as on say #4 or 5. Yes I did attribute it to starting out cold - just never realized how quickly I could get to my optimum swing speed warming up.

What a great improvement tool.

I'm enjoying my voice caddy immensely - The mevo was a bit intimidating to me. I was uncertain as to how accurate the spin rates would be and there accuracy is critical. The VC is pretty much spot on with SS and carry distances which is really what I need for my practice sessions. My fitter is generous enough with his LM if I catch him at down times so I can do random rate checks when I'm there - I will get my irons regripped in the next week or so and want to check the spin rate on my driver (there is currently no roll out so it's hard to even guess). No doubt he will let me hop on for a few swings.

May not be the setting for it but... Am I the only one who can't hit water if I fell off a boat on a simulator?!?!

My drives are always a negative attack angle on the simulators. But then I go to my range with top tracer and am swinging up at impact.

Make it tough to get fit for a driver when you hit low knuckle balls 100 yards in a fitting but am crushing 300 yard drives regularly now at the course.

Couple things to try:

1st, the tees on launch monitors are often lower than the tee you would use in the course. I actually have my own rubber tee I take with me when I am going to hit a driver.

2nd, the lighting indoors does mess with some people's depth perception and makes hitting a real challenge. Not sure how to hello that one, bring a big flashlight?

Don't mind being jacked but I'm getting back on point.

The course was basically empty when I played Saturday and even though I asked to be paired up I was sent out as a single. So I put VC to work on the course for the first time. I think I used it on five tees and the range.

Here's what I liked, driver SS was 88,89 on the range and on 17 - improved fitness is clearly paying off! It was hot and I maintained my energy. (It was also 89 with 3 wood off 18)

I had 173 to a back pin down wind on 14 (156 to carry the front bunker). I was flushing the ball and had already hit a 5 over the green on an earlier hole in a similar direction so I tried a hard hard 6. Carried it 165 and when I got to the green it was off the back. 180 total according to the GPS. It's been more than 5 years since I've hit a 6 iron that far.

Here's what I didn't like -

SS is still below 90 and I never had a ball speed over 130. I need to keep working on my SS until I can get that ball speed north of 135 consistently with driver.

My round was still under 3 hours even with setting the VC up several times. Caught the group ahead of me on 17. But slowed down to hit several chips and putts around that green after I holed out. I played that joke beautifully and lipped out my 15 footer with birdie - pictures how I would play it from the tee - drive down the right side, lay up left to set up the angle and full 60 in - that's exactly what I had.

I did!

We will see if I get selected or not. Obviously I will be watching that one closely either way.

No issues what so ever - threads here often meander - the OP always has the option to bring it back should he want but then the group has the option to move it where every it wishes.

Just a little helpful info on Voice Caddie SC 200 from customer support that answers a few questions for owners

Hello,

Please confirm if your Swing Caddie is setup as described below and let us know your test results.

Distance of SC200 behind you is within 4 feet. For known high hitters we recommend placing further back up to 10 ft.

At least 6 ½ feet in front of you and the net (if no net do not worry about this)

Do try to keep the SC200 front screen especially the Dopler camera as clean as possible as this reads the ball in flight to calculate readings

Make sure the ball and your SC200 are on the same level.

Is your unit in Carry or Total when hitting.

Range Balls: Some range balls (almost golf balls, foam or practice) are made to fly shorter due to material used so readings can be inaccurate

Colored Balls: colored balls have a harder time being read in flight.

If readings are inaccurate try propping your units front side on a note pad or small book to angle you Swing Caddie's dopler camera higher to read your best carry distance

The SC200 does not account for launch angle or ball spin so hooks, slices and other shots can be inaccurate.

Please let me know of any other ways you have your setup to further assist you. Thank you

Kind Regards,
