Peaksy68
I haven't hit them out of the rough very often (driver has been working) but I had to gouge out of some thickish stuff twice in my first round with them. Both times the ball came out clean with a high and what felt and looked like lo wish spin. Both landed softly and stopped better than expected on the green. Both times I hit 8 iron, and I would be unlikely to attempt anything with less loft from those sort of lies. I'll try to get some pics of our current rough. I planned to play a few practice holes after work this week, but a combination of being flat out at work and crook didn't let it happen. GolfSpy MPR
First, congrats again to Josh—what a round! I posted this over the milestone thread, but it's worth cross-posting here: these irons also carried me to my personal best (about a stroke-a-hole worse than Josh's ): https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/20309-first-time-breaking-a-milestone/?p=453472 Game Golf tells me that in my last three rounds, I've been hitting my approach shots like a low-single-figure handicapper. In the round in which I first broke 80, my approach game was better than scratch. At this point, I have an incredible amount of confidence with my iron play. And I'm finding that the more confidently I swing them, the more they reward me. I'm looking forward to writing me full Stage 2, but I think it's pretty obvious which direction I'm headed with my conclusion. MDGolfHacker
So another week has gone by and needless to say these irons are starting to grow on me. Last night I shot my best round EVER! I tied our course record (although from the white tees) with a 60 (-12). My previous best was a 61(-9). So now I have 2 course records to my name! IMG_8156.JPG I can't believe how these irons fly. I played the par 3's (-3) the par 5's (-4). I hit the long irons so high. This helps me so much into par 5's and even on the par 3's. Yes the putter was on fire. But these irons were as well. Anytime you put together a round like that everything has to be working and it was. I'm not going to lie as I thought rounds like this were behind me. IMG_8158.JPG Shot of the day on the par 3 8th hole. G700 PW 148yds. I have our couples club championship Sunday and the US Mid Amateur qualifier on Tuesday. I shot a bogey free 67. We both naturally birdied our 7th hole and she made some very nice pars to help our net score. The G700 irons were on again as I played the par 5's in -4. The teasers from JA has definitely piqued my interest and after hitting these on a launch monitor twice I am waiting for any reason not to make the upgrade. With irons, Stage 2 is typically 4 to 6 weeks after Stage 1's. it is a more in-depth extensive time on the range and course with them, than opposed to play 2 rounds and give us your thoughts. We like to make sure the "honeymoon" stage has passed and the testers have a true feel as to how the irons will or won't work for their games. However, feel to ask JA or any of the testers, any specific questions you may have. Granted they want to hold the bulk of the info for the stage 2 part, but they may have some little nuggets they can help answer any questions with. JAGolfore
Today I extended my par or better streak to 61 holes. Then I lost a ball and made a double bogey. My round today was frustrating to say the least. This was a qualifier for the US Mid Amateur and at a course I have never played. It was 72* with rain and 20 mph winds. Not a nice day here in Central Illinois. I ended up shooting a 75 (+4). I hit 7/13 fairways, 14/18 greens and had 35 putts. Obviously my irons were not the issue. I hit these irons very well. I had one fairway bunker shot and I hit that to 15'. Played the par 3's in even par. I could flight them down into the wind and let them go down wind. I was very pleased with this. My putter I was not happy with. The greens were unusually slow and I never have liked slow greens. I still should be able to adjust. Back to the irons. 15 pars, and 14 greens in regulation in competition are exactly where I need to be. As for any questions you guys have feel free to ask away. We are here to help. Do you ever miss your Srixons?Do you find the offset hard to adjust to in the Pings? I would happily say you're a better golfer than I am. I currently play 765s 4-6 and 965s down. Blades were a conscious choice for me, I'm a recent starter and self taught so I wanted something that made me have to become a goif ball striker quickly. Like you, it's the long irons I occasionally struggle with, but the feel of the Srixons, especially the 965s, is beautiful and they're gorgeous to look at. ole gray
The Srixons are very nice. I have played blades and cavity back irons for over 15 years never looking at game improvement irons. Yes the G700 are larger and more offset but I hit them so much higher and they are so much more forgiving. I have some stats that I believe will be very eye opening come Stage 2. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I'd bag a set of ping pong paddles on a stick if I knew they provided optimum forgiveness. I love forgiveness and the more the better.
