Har in the Hat 1,591
When I was under 50,I never had to go see a doctor and only took pills when pescribed (ie - which was very rare). Now,that I am over 50,my upper body (mostly arms and shoulders) always have a constant dull nagging pain and I am finding that I am taking drugs almost every night to help me sleep. when I am golfing or exercising, the pain is not there. Just when I am not active. God,something I would have never thought before in my life,I am now thinking - medicinal marijuana. And it will become legal in Alberta this fall? Wife won't go for it though and cannot do it with a 14 yo and 11 yo in the house 😀. they are my sanity. Are their any other golfers out there with similar issues or body pains. or I am I just an old fart? 1 Quote What's in my Mizuno BR-D2 bag OFFICIAL TESTER FOR THE PING i500 CLUBS. DougC38 70
Although I'm only 35... I'm in the same boat as you. I can't sit or stay still for long or I “lock up†and the pain from my hips, back and legs is almost unbearable. What helps me a lot is some stretching and mobility exercises from when I was training for powerlifting. Pick up a foam roller and look up DeFranco's Agile 8 and Dr. McGill's Big 3. Do them exercises the best you can and some shoulder mobility (windmills, high rep light band pull aparts/face pulls, broomstick stretches, etc...). Epsom salt baths help a ton too. As far as the medical marijuana... I feel like that's a much better choice than pain killers or other meds when used responsibly. There are healthier ways to use it... like edibles or vaporizers. There are still a good bit of people that have negative views about it but I think it's much safer than prescribed drugs or alcohol.
PING Apologist #9 4,566
Couldn't do the hippie lettuce if I wanted to...just too many issues with using that stuff because of my security clearance needs to even think about it. But I do pop a couple of Advils before each round or even practice to help keep me loose and prevent the normal aches from going from mild to screaming. I also self-medicate out there with a beer or 2 and wind down with Bourbon afterward. 5 Quote In my DLX Cart Bag: Driver: G410 SFT, set to 9.5*, Mitsubishi Tensei CK Orange 60, stiff (MGS Official 2019 Tester) 3W: G-Series SF TEC, set to 16*, Aldila Tour Blue ATX, 65g, stiff 5W: G400 SFT, set to 19*, Aldila Tour Blue ATX, 65g, stiff 7W: G410 SFT, set to 22*. NiftyNiblick 1,995
I don't do pain meds prophylactically, ever, but after the fact, 10mg of (legally prescribed) oxycodone sometimes sneaks into the picture in between epidural steroid shots. There are two possibilities--you get old and worn out or you die young. I'm not the Guy who came up with this system. I don't know if drugs are a golfer's best friend--that's kind of extreme--but they keep a lot of us on the course until they can't anymore. As for Mary Jane, I can't speak for the medicinal value but recreational is legal here. Quitting tobacco smoking was so hard that I wouldn't want to inhale smoke ever again. My littlest one is forty-one so no role model issues. Edibles? Maybe at a party or something, but that's about it.

deejaid 3,945
A couple of pulls off the cannabis oil pen is all I need. One with a high CBD (cannabidiol) is great for relieving aches and pains and also relaxes me at the end of the day. I also believe it has helped keep my blood pressure low as well as my cholesterol. And cold and rainy days call for tea with echinacea. pulledabill 2,708
I got lots of aches and psin at 51 years old. I take BP meds and was popping ibu and tykenol in the spring like craszy. With the warm weather its a rarity. I eat an edible a couple times a month but thats it. Mainly to relax. CBD oils are getting rave reviews with more and everyday getting great results. You arent getting loaded on CBD oil, you are treating an ailment. I dont take it because of my BP meds. If I can get doctor approval next time in, I will talk about it with him. SteddyGolf 1,883
You really should consult your doctor [emoji67]â€âš•ï¸ when taking meds on a regular basis. You might be replacing joint pain with something much worse. Believe it or not staying hydrated along with routine stretching will go a long way towards making you more comfortable. There are also other NSAIDs that might be more appropriate for your specific needs. Mobic is great for joint pain for many people while ibuprofen may be for others. Google is great but your primary care physician or specialist really is your best source for quality health care. I need to do some stretching before hand. Ughhhh old age!! Guys, Charli nailed it (exercise and stretching.). The latter had been something I neglected for years and that was a mistake. Over the winter I started a 'yoga for golf' program. While I don't follow it religiously everyday (takes about 30 min) I do some of the warm-up/stretching exercises before I go out and play. As a result I'm much more flexible before I hit my first drive. Charli 915
Sorry to answer your question no. Exercise stretching should be your best friend. Drugs are just putting a bandaid on something that can probably be fixed through exercise and strengthening certain muscles. For example your knees bothering you it could be from tight hamstrings or maybe the lower back also could be from hammies or a weak core.
yungkory 10,951
Stretching and exercising are important and I do them rigorously. Also,as people have mentioned - what is CBD stand for? Cannabidiol. It's the non-psychoactive part of marijuana. It has been shown to treat inflammation, control seizures, and a variety of other health benefits. It's 50-state legal and can be derived from marijuana as well as hemp. I eat a 10mg edible nightly. I have shoulder issues from surfing and sitting at a computer all day for work and entertainment. I have pretty much eliminated the need to take Advil/Tylenol, where before I was taking them almost daily. I am convinced about the inflammation relief, and the side effects are that it makes me sleepy. I've gotten all of my coworkers except for one to stop popping Advil/Tylenol, even one of my coworkers who was going to PT for his shoulder, admitted that CBD helps him more than anything. 5 Quote Driver: TSi3 10* Ventus Red 3w/5w: TSi2 Tensei AV Raw Blue 4h: CLK 22* Hybrid Tensei CK Pro Blue 80HY S Irons 5-PW: JPX 919 Forged Nippon Modus 3 Tour 105 S Wedges: RTX Zipcore Tour Rack 50, 54, 58 Modus 3 115 Wedge Putter: L.A.B. deejaid 3,945
Cannabis has so many health benefits and can benefit so many people with different ailments, it is truly a wonder drug. Naturally growing, not synthesized in a lab. It is absolutely foolish that the higher ups in our country spout nonsense about it having no medical uses or that it is as bad as heroin; really ridiculous claims. I'm waiting for these same morons to claim the world is flat. When my Grandmother was dying of cancer last year I took her some high CBD edibles and oils and it really helped with her pain and helped her get a bit of her appetite back. Now she was of the typical old school mindset of “Reefer Madness-weed is terrible†that her generation where taught, but after I explained CBD and it's benefits she gave it a try. She needed something for the pain and knew that once she started the morphine, she'd be gone, just be laying there unable to communicate. She lasted two more months after I went and saw her and I am happy I was able to help her manage her pain better than she was with pharmaceuticals. Pain killing drugs, particularly synthetic opiates (or opioids as they are now called) are probably not the best answer for anything that can be fixed or at least mitigated. Many golf type injuries are forever, however. Not fixable with present medical technology. It's a choice between drugs and pain. While I agree that drugs are clearly not the answer for everything, I would suggest, any moralizing aside, that in some instances, they're the only answer.
